Situated between the Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, this hotel is listed as one of England's oldest coaching inns and overlooks the cobbled market place in Thirsk. Good location and very comfortable.
This old coaching inn with a traditional welcome rests in the centre of a Yorkshire market town, made famous by James Herriot. A converted old coaching inn in the centre of Thirsk , my single room had a very comfortable bed with top class bedding, a good en suite with very fluffy towels & zen toiletries, and a lovely view of the old market square. The staff were very helpful and friendly - how often do you get a receptionist insisting on helping you with your luggage as the lift only goes to the first floor (there are only 2 floors!) Food on site is always a bonus, but this is a pub chain; however the dining area was spotless and very civilised and the food and service way above the standard of the usual Wetherspoons. The staff make it special though......"Eggs Benedict for breakfast Madam? Would you like a Bucks Fizz with that?" I was tempted, but the coffee was wonderful! The other bonus is that the hotel is sited opposite the tourist information office also staffed with helpful and knowledgeable people who will answer all your questions about the local area and public transport.

Thirsk is a lovely market town that is worth visiting. Enough to do on a two night stay. Loved Sowerby too. Stayed at The Three Tons and had a few meals there. Good transport links. We enjoyed the local museum and the country walks.
Thirsk is a typical country market town . Is in a good place for touring and has all the basic facilities. Visually it is good with a cobbled town centre and old hotels and buildings, a good vibe about the place and the river that runs around the town is a bonus.with pretty walks near to it.
A lovely market town a short distance from the linden tree accommodation..built around a traditional market square. Dog and gun on Carlton road should be visited..modernised but still has the feel of a living room.excellent food and plenty of it.
small market town so not alot of shops, but lovely to sit outside cafes on the square and watch the world go by. spent 2 nights there and were lucky to have a yorkshire vet book signing in the local book shop and an agricultural show up the road, so alongside pubs, brillient magic wok chinese, and a superb littele cottage as a base, relaxed well. james herriot museuem worth a visit, seemed abit dry and dusty on entry, but improved as we went round. childrens interactive room was fun , for us to do quizzes and games, as adults. easy road access would make it a good base for visiting other towns/whitby etc
Thirsk is a great place to stay it is central for the area. Northallerton another lovely town. Take car to Ripon good day there. Catch bus to Harrogate and Leeds. You can spend a good week there with plenty to see. We ate at Wetherspoons and as we were seeing friends had take away Chinese which was good. Very easy to get around. I wouldn't say a lot for younger couples.

Genuine small village. Local friendly people. Perfectly situated to go anywhere in North Yorkshire. York is around 35 mins by car. The dales about 30 mins. Scarborough about 45 mins. Food is fine and staff very accommodating if you give them a tiny bit of notice. We're veggies, and they would cook anything for us (not even on the menu). Completely bespoke. The Inn is much larger than first appearances, and quite asymmetrical inside. Love the atmosphere. A totally surprising gem. We will definitely return.

Could not fault our stay. Huge room, comfy bed and pillows, with everything you could need. Nothing was too much trouble for Sue. The breakfast and service was great. We visited Thirsk Races as a treat for my husbands birthday and Sue even pre-booked our taxi transfers for us. On our first night after a busy day we chilled out in the Hot Tub whilst drinking prosecco and a few beers under the stars - Very Relaxing. We will be back when we next visit Thirsk.

Geoff is an absolute legend. I sincerely enjoyed our conversations each morning and he was a wealth of valuable knowledge for the area. I've spend a lot of time in Thirsk and the surrounding area but still found his information very valuable. The location is great, the breakfast fantastic, the B&B beautiful, and all for reasonable pricing.

We had to leave a hotel we had booked in Thirsk as very disappointing We took a gamble ad booked the Kings Arms! The ensuite room was lovely! Dinner and breakfast freshly cooked! For dinner we picked out cut of meat/fish. Then it was cooked for you. Highly recommend

Excellent on site restaurant with wood fired Pizza oven, log burning stoves in the lounge areas and good menu choice - a nice departure from the ubiquitous 'Chicken Tikka Masala' offered in pubs. Service was good and real ale was on tap.
