Hotel in Thirsk
This old coaching inn with a traditional welcome rests in the center of a Yorkshire market town, made famous by James Herriot. The only thing was we were in a disablity room not a problem but the green light above the door inside the room was annoying and the gap around the door was too deep so the light shone in.

Very quiet market town, several pubs in the market square, and some shops (usual suspects - Co-op, Greggs, Cafe Nero, some nice clothes shops. Not many eateries, two Italians, fish and chips, sandwich shops. Golden Fleece Hotel seems to be the best place to eat and drink. Thirsk could be a good place to use as a base to travel around North Yorkshire, one you can negotiate the one-way system to get out of town. Shame there wasn't any horse-racing on.
A good old market town with some good shops, restaurants, and pubs. Plenty of Car Parking, but it was busy when we arrived on a Saturday. There are several interesting old and quirky buildings and as usual, Weatherspoon has one of them, however, be careful, some rooms are old cellars and your phone will not work, so you cant use it to order your drinks or meals.
Exceptionally lovely market town. James Herriott museum is a must. Value for money and huge amount of veterinary equipment on show. Brimham Rocks is a must. Never seen anything like it anywhere in the world.
Small, friendly, very pretty market town. Lots of restaurants, independent shops, local pubs and gastro pubs not to mention a small cinema plus James Herriot Museum (yes, this is Darrowby). Good time to go too as interrnational travel is limeted so no queues for museum. Small enough to walk everywhere. White Rose Book Cafe does some lovely cakes and has a garden out the back to take tea in - fabulous. Great base to start travels around Yorkshire.
Thirsk is a small market town, pretty and easy to park. The only thing which marred the visit was that the James Herriott museum would not let me go into the shop because of my very small dog and the staff were really unhelpful and unfriendly. What was their problem?
Room was excellent. Breakfast excellent. Evening meal ok we had steak one night it was tough and grisly lot of fat. Staff on reception not very helpful bit rude. Staff in dining room very good. Wouldn't stay again
Thirsk
Mark and Nikki are lovely hosts and being close to Thirsk town centre ( maybe a 10 min. Walk) and around the corner from Waitrose and Lidl one has everything needed within reach. The room was simple and small , but clean and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast is cooked to order and delicious. Loved the World of James Herriot and visiting Robert Thompson’s of Kilburn, the Mouseman, and his workshop which is a 20 minute drive away.

Alex was top notch as a host. Excellent location for visiting the north moors as well as the Yorkshire dales. Everybody was friendly that we met at the Kings Arms we ended up talking to locals as well as residents. I want to go again as we only scratched at seeing the local scenery. We absolutely loved the North Yorkshire Moors and wondered why we had never been before.
Thirsk
Up for a family wedding, fortunately all the local hotels were fully booked, thus enabling us to unearth this delightful treasure. Cosy comfort, fully-equipped and well-located close to town centre and just off the A19. We were made to feel really welcome by our hosts, even though we didn't actually meet face-to-face. Would definitely book here again.

Myself and my two daughters (9 and 12) Had a fabulous stay. The cottage was perfect and the animals on the farm were an extra special bonus. The owners were great and allowed us all to have cuddles with the lambs. The cottage was immaculate and had absolutely everything you would need . Lovely walk into thirsk town centre from this location.
Thirsk
A very comfortable cottage in a lovely area, with easy access to lots of the sites and beautiful landscapes of North Yorkshire. Warm and cosy, good sofas and very nice oak furniture throughout. Extra touches - like seasoned logs for the woodburner, fresh flowers, slippers and bathrobes - were a much appreciated surprise.
