We love keswick and could not get booked into anywhere Threlkeld is just outside a mile or 2 at most and we would stay here again. You can walk Blencathra from Threlkeld. The White horse pub in Threlkeld is a good stop for a drink & food. We did via ferrarta extreme which is a drive up to the old slate mines, great fun my teenage son was impressed. Photos are of Via Ferrarta.

A quiet and beautiful village with great pubs, a lovely cafe, and decent transport links -
also has great views and the awe-inspiring Blencathra standing guard over the village too. Brilliant place.
I didn't go to see Threlkeld, but to see the Lake...
I didn't go to see Threlkeld, but to see the Lake District and climb a mountain. Unfortunately the weather was not good enough for my 11 year old daughter to go up the mountain. But this bunkhouse is well worth a visit if you are on a budget.
This hotel was perfect for our trip to the Lake District.
This hotel was perfect for our trip to the Lake District. Location was excellent and food could not be faulted. We went to Keswick climbed Walla Cragg from where the views are magnificent and wined and dined in the hotel. I did not eat elsewhere as I was very happy with the food in the pub. A car is needed to get around although there is a regular bus service through the village.Go and see the stone circle which is nearby to the hotel.
Threlkeld itself is just a small village but its location...
Threlkeld itself is just a small village but its location under Blencathra, off the main road and within walking distance of Keswick (1 hour) or by bus or car makes it a good place for a Lakes break where you can retreat to after a busy day exploring
“I can not think anything I dislike, we travelled with 2 years old, it is good for couple of nights staying without spending a lot of money in lakes, the reason we chose this is because of the space outside is great for our little boy to run around on his balance bike. The room is small but it is ok as toddler never wants to stay in the room even if it is fancy hotel. The general toilet and kitchen are clean.”
