Todmorden
Glenroyd House, Private annex to Victorian villa with kitchen is located in Todmorden.
There are many things to see and do in Todmorden a former cotton mill town on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border. The town hall in the very centre of the Town is a fine building with lots of history. Tours are arranged regularly led by knowledgeable volunteers. Then there is the unitarian church overlooking the town, the only unitarian church with a steeple. You can walk down Water Street where the buildings echo a bygone age or walk along the canal with its interesting bridges, its locks and its packhorse history. Other buildings include the 'Free' library, Todmorden Old Hall, the huge Centre Vale Park and many more. Or if walking is your thing you can take advantage of the huge number of local walks, both around the town and up onto the hillsides that surround it. Sites to visit include the medieval village of Mankinholes and the early industrial village of Lumbutts. The former Lumbutts chapel is reputedly the warmest methodist chapel in Yorkshire following a bequest for heating. The area around Todmorden is dotted with reservoirs and former resevoirs . There is a myriad of pubs and small hotels and b&bs to help you sleep well at night and eat well during the day
I only went for an event which was at the golden lion pub who my favourite artists was playing that night so from the hotel to the venue excellent . otherwise there is nothing to do or see and no shopping Venter.
I used to live in Todmorden.A big change has taken place, many restaurants and Bistros. Food from Europe and Asia. Very pleasant Canal walk. A negative the Local Authority have it seems abandoned what was a great park. Now rather decrepit and uncared for.
There is some truly beautiful scenery in this part of Calderdale. The area should be especially attractive for those who enjoy hill-walking. Todmorden has an interesting industrial past and the local people seem very friendly and down-to-earth. A good place to seek sanctuary and respite from the stresses and strains of metropolitan life.
Todmorden is a very small town but its a good place to set off from it has good starting points for walkers the carnal towpath can take you right down to Hebden bridge this is a long walk but on a cool day is a good one to do but watch out for the Canadian geese but that said if you can find a nice quiet place to stay then Todmorden is the place for walkers.
lovely friendly market town, my dad came from here, so went every year to visit family when young, have always had a fondness for it, beautiful scenery, parks, lovely walks, some great places to eat, and some easily accesible other towns, by car or train (we used train, quicker and very inexpensive to travel) to go to Hebden Bridge ect, friendly
Extremely handy for the centre of Todmorden. The breakfast included at The White Hart was excellent. Lovely new bar area about to open. Easy parking right outside. Very good value and bags of potential for the future. Helpful, pleasant staff.
Owner in very friendly and helpful. If I have to go to Todmorden again, I would always choose this accommodation again if possible. Greetings from Germany.
