I used to live in Todmorden.A big change has taken place, many restaurants and Bistros. Food from Europe and Asia. Very pleasant Canal walk. A negative the Local Authority have it seems abandoned what was a great park. Now rather decrepit and uncared for.
There is some truly beautiful scenery in this part of Calderdale. The area should be especially attractive for those who enjoy hill-walking. Todmorden has an interesting industrial past and the local people seem very friendly and down-to-earth. A good place to seek sanctuary and respite from the stresses and strains of metropolitan life.
Todmorden is a very small town but its a good place to set off from it has good starting points for walkers the carnal towpath can take you right down to Hebden bridge this is a long walk but on a cool day is a good one to do but watch out for the Canadian geese but that said if you can find a nice quiet place to stay then Todmorden is the place for walkers.
lovely friendly market town, my dad came from here, so went every year to visit family when young, have always had a fondness for it, beautiful scenery, parks, lovely walks, some great places to eat, and some easily accesible other towns, by car or train (we used train, quicker and very inexpensive to travel) to go to Hebden Bridge ect, friendly
Ideal base for walking, cycling ,good bus service no need to use car unless you want to. various eating places to suit all pockets and choice. we ate at the Vedas restaurant Friday evening, Wetherspoons for breakfasts The Golden Lion on Saturday evening and Sunday lunch at the Wagon and Horses Walsden. (fantastic value). Road works on Todmorden Hebdon Bridge road causedtraffic gridlock most times of day, but thats life.
A beautiful little town which seems very keen to promote community living. The canal walk is lovely with beds of vegetables and herbs for people to enjoy and share. Would have liked to spend longer in this quaint town. May return in happier circumstances.
The cottage was so wonderful, we have already made a second booking. Our purpose was to visit family, and take advantage of all the walks, coffee shops and restaurants available between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. The cottage itself could not be more comfortable and welcoming. Everything was spotlessly clean and very new, the beds comfortable, shower hot and powerful. The view across the valley to Stoodley Pike was quite amazing.
A compact and comfortable apartment with all the facilities we needed for a four-night stay. Andy and Leila were available when we needed them, and we had a great time. Glenroyd House is close to the centre of Todmorden, but off main traffic routes, and the area is peaceful, with open country above the house. Would I go back? Definitely.
Perfect location opposite the station, friendly staff, comfortable bed, very clean room and a great selection at the continental breakfast. Todmorden itself was also excellent with a great number and variety of pubs and places to eat. An ideal location for rambling in the Pennines too.
Within easy access of great walks and Todmorden and Hebden Bridge
