We like whitby itself and coastal towns around but the royal hotel itself absolutely shocking for the money we payed no deep cleaning in our room which suppose to be done because of covid absolutely filthy cobwebs stains on bed water in kettle stunk no toilet rools no milk teabags coffee to make hot drinks when we arrived no central heating on at night management rude this morning not a good choice of cold drinks in bar like I say I could go on and on
Whitby yes but not The Royal until it has had a complete refurb. I would not expect prices to rise even with a full refurb as it is already at a high rate. I suspect that is because the hotel is cashing in on the exceptional views
The higgledy piggledy nature of the place , the ginnels, variety of shops and coffee rooms. friendly people, amazing fish and chips, scenic marina, and variety of things to do ; sea trips, the Abbey, steam train trip, walks in the area, excellent family beach, other attractions a short drive away, Not ideal for wheel chair users though.
Beautiful location on North Yorkshire coast. Heritage fishing town with masses of charm. Wonderful pubs and restaurants to suit every taste and budget. Within easy reach of Scarborough as well as quieter places like Robin Hood's Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes.
We have been visiting Whitby for over 20 years and its never really changed. We sometimes go in the car, sometimes on the motorbike. It has a lot of hills, so bear this in mind if you have any difficulties walking. The surrounding countryside is great, on a sunny day, not so great in the rain! We did the coastal cliff top walk to Robin Hoods bay, which is challenging, but enjoyable, An easier walk is the beach to Sandsend. Pubs are great, and great Fish and Chips. We have visited the magpie, but its all good. You need to book to eat anywhere indoors at the moment, and the pubs tend to be full also, so may have to wait due to the restrictions
We've been to Whitby many times but enjoy it every single time. We have our favourite haunts, always do the Abbey and the Abbey Brewery. We went to Blitz Restaurant again. We wanted to go on the seal and whale watching trip but that doesn't start until July.
Whitby
Our room was wonderful! It was at the top of a beautiful home, high on the hill overlooking the harbor. Two minutes' walk from the station (and the Station Inn, a fantastic pub, and Trenchers, best fish and chips we've ever had). The very best part of our stay were our hosts, Ted and Sandra, the loveliest people we met on our honeymoon. They were generous with their time and advice, and their delicious breakfasts sustained us through long days of sightseeing. We'll never forget our time at Captains Cabin. Thanks so much, Ted and Sandra!
Whitby
My husband & I travel the UK and Ireland extensively, and the Dolphin is a establishment we would visit again and again. The quaint fishing village is a gorgeous, and the Dolphin is at the heart of it! The room had glorious views and the owners and staff took every step to ensure you felt right at home. They make your stay very enjoyable. I didn’t go down for breakfast, but the owner sent up toast and tea for me. Wonderfully thoughtful. Loved it.
