Nestled within the beautiful Northumberland countryside in the picturesque village of Whitfield, The Elks Head Inn offers bright rooms and hearty, locally sourced cuisine. Wonderful location - extremely peaceful close to the river Allen. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to look after us. The food was excellent and freshly cooked. The pub was lively and the beer was well looked after. What’s not to like?

Located in Allendale Town in the Northumberland region, Panoramic Pods provides accommodations with free private parking. The location was perfect for the purpose - we were attending an event in Allendale. The pod was beautifully clean, excellent facilities and well equipped with everything we could need. Neil had the hot tub all ready for us on arrival and again the next day which was fab to relax in after a busy day. It was quiet and we were really lucky with the weather. Couldn't have asked for better.
Thornley House is located in Hexham and offers a terrace. The property is 23 miles from Stanley, and guests benefit from complimentary WiFi and private parking available on site. This is a lovely B&B, a real hidden gem and something I found by accident as we made a last minute decision to go to Allendale for the Tar Bar'l and we were lucky that a room was still available. I hadn't realised it was a cat hotel as I booked it quite quickly so it was a lovely surprise when we got there to see all the beautiful cats. Aileen is a great host, totally my kind of person, very genuine and interesting. The house is full of amazing artworks and trinkets, all from her travels around the world. Particular highlights were the Syrian coffee pot and blue booby teapot from the Galapagos Islands. Breakfast was sumptuous, with fresh fruit, creamy yoghurt, seeds, cereals, fresh juice, fresh croissants, homemade jam and a full English on offer. I can;t eat too much in the morning so she rocked us up one of the best bacon sanndwiches ever. The views from the room were stunning, the bed was really comfortable (we had the twin room) and the house was lovely and warm. It's a very homely stay, much better than generic hotels. It felt like a real experience staying there and we'd definitely stay again if we ever find ourselves in Allendale. Highly recommended but I can see why people who prefer modern hotels may not like it because it's more homely than plush. But it's definitely the kind of place you'll remember fondly forever.
The owners had only just been in the Hotel a few weeks and had had a lot to do to get it to the standard it was to receive guests. Only open five days when we arrived. Because of this there were a few teething problems, so some of my scores were a little lower than they could have been.
