Lovely village but getting very busy. Restaurants were excellent and staff in them very polite and attentive. Akrotiri is a beautiful town. I definitely recommend visiting the Akrotiri archaeological site, but the entrance fee of 20 euros is honestly way too expensive. The place is amazing, with both red and black sand beaches that are truly unique. The food is delicious- we tried several restaurants, and both the service and meals were consistently excellent. Akrotiri Was much quieter than the other side of the island (Oia). The village is small and has the small town feel. I am from a big city in the United States, so Akrotiri was a very different than home. Being Americans, and Black Americans to add, we stood out from the other people we encountered. Akrotiri town is nice.
Akrotiri town is nice. It was quiet, but perhaps we are out of season. We ate at Portobello restaurant. Excellent service and kind waiters. They also speak French. Red Beach was closed due to rock slides. The beach is hard to access, even to observe. Great location to visit the rest of the island. The lighthouse was a close location to view the sunset. Sunsets are a Santorini attraction but are only good on very clear days. If there is a haze, you'll be disappointed.Guest review byJPCanada

From the balcony in the breakfast area, you can even see the eastern sky - so it's possible to view both the famous Santorini sunsets and sunrises. Apart from this, it was a decent place to stay. Our spacious room had windows that face the lake and volcano island. Across the caldera in the distance, we could see the opposite coast. The location is incredible - right by the sea, with a black sand beach a few steps down from the hotel. The breakfast is absolutely fabulous, the staff is lovely and attentive - felt like paradise. Santorini is also a very busy island - a lot of mass tourism but the location of the hotel is where you escape those crowds - it has more of a local feel and yet Akrotiri ancient city and the red beach are a short walk away.
