Mykonos is great for whether you want a relaxing vacation, a bit more of a party atmosphere - or a mix of both!
Book a hotel with a stunning view to relax at during the day, and then head down into the old town in the evening for dinner, drinks and dancing. If you want it a bit more chilled overall, I suggest going late September / early October (although make sure you go before places close for the season!) - you might also find the hotels have better deals at this time.
Be prepared for things to be a little bit expensive - this is not a cheap vacation. The island is small, has to import a lot of goods, and is seasonal, so the prices tend to be a higher than a lot of other places across Greece.
For eating I would generally avoid the restaurants along the front, these tend to be tourist traps and you will spend your time trying to dodge them trying to reel you in. Instead take a walk through the maze of streets and try and look for some smaller places. If you want to keep it cheap look out for places that do souvlaki and gyros - there are loads - try out Sakis Grill House!
For bars, I would suggest Lola's which is great for a fun time, great staff, and delicious cocktails. In the day and searching for coffee? - then try out Soulmates - they do great coffee and have a cute little courtyard for you to sit in and plan out your day.
Getting around the island is easy. If you don't plan on getting a car, then book a hotel not too far from the old town - our hotel, Tagoo, was a 10 minute walk to the old town. You can also hire cars, mopeds and quad bikes if you fancy an adventure. Transfers from the airport are easy with the likes of Uber / local taxi.
Overall you will have a great time in Mykonos with the perfect blend of relaxation and lively nightlife. I recommend going for any length of time up to a maximum of a week.

Mykonos town is nice to visit, but would not choose to stay in town again. We ended up in a villa outside of town and it was wonderful. Quiet, roomy, comfortable with great facilities/amenities. It's a very windy island and the couple of beaches we visited were not fantastic, but not awful either.

Mikonos is a great island to visit!
Mikonos is a great island to visit! We went with our four young adult children. The town is beautiful, locals very friendly, food was amazing! We ate at Kastro’s which is 10/10. Food was beyond amazing and staff were spectacular! We stayed at the Asty Mykonos Hotel and Spa which is definitely a must place to stay! It’s at the top of the town and a perfect walk up the hill after eating delicious Greek food! Great way to get in your daily steps! 😁

Much lovelier than expected.
Much lovelier than expected. Felt like a town that was lived in rather than just for the tourists. Best when less crowded and the beginning or end of the season better. Locals lovely and helpful, easy to walk around, felt safe and valued for our custom. Restaurants felt a bit samey so take time to find ones you like. Bus services (coaches) really great and drivers excellent. Neutered cats also very welcoming! the ones with a bit missing from the top of one ear. Very clean everywhere and lots of care given to the buildings. The tiny cemetery was beautifully looked after.

Beautiful and friendly Island with plenty of options for various budgets.
Eat anywhere from self catering, to the the Gyros on every street to fine dining options.
Supermarkets and mini markets are readily available and there are some superb large bakeries in the central road area near the airport which must cater for many of the hotels.
Petrol and cars / atvs are readily available.
Parking in town is always tricky - especially in peak season so either find transfers or just embrace the Greek chaos of parking near the port.
Beaches are lovely - just know you can either use the sunbeds or pitch up in public sections - respect the local businesses and nature and you’ll be fine.
Airport is well serviced, it is small and we transferred through from car hire check over to gate within 30 minutes (Mid October)
Many boat trips and sunset cruises are available to book, and some beaches have water sports facilities like jet skis - sadly I haven’t found sailing options in my two trips.
High end shopping and tourist shop options in the centre to cater to different budgets.

Amazing family run rooms, Sophie, John and Nick were all so lovely and super helpful.
Ask for a transfer, cheaper than taxi and John was there waiting for me when I landed.
Lovely large clean quiet room with patio outside, really comfy bed with gorgeous linens, shower had good pressure and constant hot water, really good WiFi, close to town which is a 5 minute walk away.
Definitely go to Libertys on the top road nearby for fab breakfast, bit pricey but great views from the patio and loads of choice.
The service from the staff, particularly attendance when we bybthe pool. Young family in in luxury hotel can be shunned but B&C did everything to welcome us - they even made 2 cots work in our suite without it feeling compromised.. The breakfast was amazing as was the view from dawn to dusk.. Option to go to the private beach at sister adult only resort was welcome. Perfect 36 hours of luxury at the end of our stay in Mykonos.
Everything was great! It’s a family run hotel and they are great hosts. Breakfast was always right on time and very good. We stayed in a room with a balcony which had a great view of the sea. The beds were very comfortable and It was amazing waking up there every morning and having that view. It was very close to the centre as well, you only had to go down some steps and walk 10 minutes and you were in Mykonos town.
I stayed here on the recommendation of a friend, and it didn’t disappoint. In fact it was the perfect stay. The hotel is spotlessly clean, modern with a charming ‘Mykonos feel’. It’s in a perfect location, perched just above the town, with views of the Aegean, yet only a 5 minutes walk from the town centre. The buffet breakfast was delicious. Best of all the staff we friendly and helpful.
The room is just like what the photos presents. And the location is the best. Easily walking distance to the town. If you carry a big luggage, you can reach the hotel easily via taxi or car.
Special thanks to the owner. He helped me when I suddenly found I lost my passport. This is a warm and relaxing hotel.
