No wonder the taverna owners don’t have much enthusiasm as it’s a dying duck, Water looked minging so we didn’t even bother going in the sea. Beach dirty and covered in rubbish and seaweed. Its a beautiful place with very nice landscape and beaches - much better then Skala a more touristic town nearby. It is also cheap enough, friendly and you can find some really good food, in particular seafood. However, it might be that early June (as it happened to us now) the water might be a bit cold and windy. However, from 7th of June the weather has improved. The village is in 2 parts I suppose, the bay and the harbour. It's small and well maintained with plenty of restaurants and cafes and clings to the mountainside. It's quiet and laid back, apart from the time when the ferry arrives but that is a highlight of the day. The ferry goes to Kylini on the mainland and costs 13.95 each way for a foot passenger, but cars, bikes and large lorries use it also. There isn't much to see and do in Kylini but as I had never been to the mainland before, I just went coz it's there. It takes around 90 minutes each way. I also took a boat trip to Ithaca, stopping at Vathy and Kioni on the island along with a couple of swim stops for those who want to. The price was 55 euros and it was a full day. There are trips to Zakynthos available as well from Poros. The views across the Ionian Sea are amazing and when it's clear the mainland is very visible along with all the other islands. There is a hiking trail starting and finishing in Poros (the island has a lot of them) but unfortunately it is partially closed. The restaurants I went to all served good food with large portions at reasonable prices. The owners and waiters were all genial and helpful. There isn't a lot to do apart from walking the bay etc so I recommend hiring a car to see further afield. I managed to get round most of the island and while the roads are definitely not motorways, they are generally well maintained with a few crazy steep hairpin type corners. Although there were some teenagers and travellers in their 20s, it is a peaceful place, which brings back the memories of another, calmer era. Poros is almost a ghost-town.
Poros is almost a ghost-town. There are alot of abandoned buildings, very few people around and not too much facilities. There are just 2 small markets, and few souvenir stores on the main street. Food is decent, but nothing great. There are 10-15 restaurants to choose from, but they have almost the same food, not terrible, but medium quality. The beach is not great. Definetly not what would you expect from Greece. There are only few spots with clear water and clean beach. Once was a nice town, but now looks abandoned and only a few old people living there. And the main problem is that is located very south and on the eastern coast of the island. The island is very big, and greatest beaches are on the north-west side of the island. It took like 2h of driving to get to a beautiful beach. Roads are ok, but there are in the mountains. There are no cool beaches around Poros. If you want to see some blue-turquoise water and amazing beach, you will not find that here. Its quite and cosy, but when you want to see the "greece water" you have to take an 1:30-2h roadtrip through the mountains.Guest review byCristinaRomania - 10.0

We were welcomed by Antonis, who gave us lots of recommendations and answered every question we had about where to go and where to eat. The room was exceptionally clean, we had everything we needed there. The little kitchen is even equipped with a Bialetti. From our balcony we had a sea view and the AC was working properly. Poros is a cute little town with a bakery and you can reach almost all parts of the island in like 1,5h.
