"We needed to stay 1 night in Portaria and had been recommended Pelion Mansion by friends. After reading their excellent reviews, we booked straight away. The guest house is built in a beautiful, traditional style with a terrace that offers a stunning mountain view. Nic & Kat provide 1st class hospitality with locally sourced food , and we couldn't fault the clean and cosy room we stayed in. We would definitely recommend staying at Pelion Mansion and hope to return to Portaria."
Portaria is a really nice place that combines traditional restaurants with friendly people and a breath taking scenery in the mountains with a panoramic view of Volos. The trail of Centaurs is a must,as well as tasting the traditional sweets of the women's co-op.
All villages from Pelion are extremely interesting and with a local air. The view is just unbelievable. A great rustic experience which a real urban, busy traveler must have. The food, the nature, the panorama, every and each place are just mind blowing. Pelion is not the tourist oriented place, but this makes it even more desirable. So, if you choose Greece and you might need some peace of soul, this is the place.
We stayed at gastronomy hotel Kritsa in front of a 1000 years old Plane tree. The hotel shares a big yard together with 2-3 other small hotels covered by huge Plane trees. It's a magnificent place .
The place is high up on the hill abd there are maginificent views down the city and mountaims. Sadly a road goes through it which has very high trafic on it which ruins the romantic feel. Overall a great place to stay for couple of nights.
Highly recommend a trip to Portaria for anyone wanting to get to know the Pelion. It's a small mountain village, given over largely to tourism, but still full of character. All of the restaurants in the square serve good food and the place is lively at the weekends, particularly in the evening. It's a good place to walk up into the mountains and there are various paths to take - our favourite was the Centaur's path. There is a wonderful herb shop selling all sorts of dried herbs to cure all ills - we are in love with the Ditany tea we bought and wish we had bought more! You can also buy good honey etc. I'd think that having a car is essential however, particularly if you want to explore the wider area - which is well worthwhile. At the very top of the hills there are wonderful far reaching sea views as well as views over Volos.
The staff at the Pilion were absolutely lovely - kind, thoughtful and incredibly helpful. The owner of the hotel drove us to dinner because we didn’t want to drink and drive, and then he picked us up - which was beyond sweet. The recommendation for dinner was fantastic. Beds were comfortable, shower very good, breakfast delicious - what more could we have asked for? Thanks to all at the Pilion for making our stay so welcoming.

We had a most excellent stay. The lovely Katerina and Violeta were exceptionally accommodating to all our needs and full of lively conversation and tips for the area. The breakfast was full of mouthwatering, homemade delicacies. The room was spacious, warm and very welcoming, with reliable WiFi and hot water around the clock. We strongly suggest staying here while visiting Pilio and we are looking forward to come back.
Gastronomy Hotel Kritsa is located in the center of Portaria. The town has restaurants, cafes and bars and a few shops. The hotel is built in a local style and is surrounded by a green plaza full of flowering plants. The rooms are furnished in a country style although sometimes not meticulous. Breakfast was very successful and served local Greek food.
Everything was great. The room ,the view, the fireplace with unlimited wood. If they could just give a little boost in their breakfast it would be a total 10 for me. It was nice and tasty. But I need just a little bit more for my always get to hotel in this location!!!!
