Rio Dulce is a great spot to vacation, it's very relaxing. If you want more night life...then probably best to stay in Livingston. If you are ever in Livingston, the best Tapado was at a small restaurant Restaurante Gabby!! Unforgettable!! El Viajero didn't come close in flavor, maybe we just went on a bad day. If you travel solo you can't do anything as it's just for groups else yours are in excess of £250! It's not safe to hike to seven altars alone (I was told by locals) so it's just very far for no reason. I really wanted to like Rio Dulce.
I really wanted to like Rio Dulce. It turned out to be only a hub for boat and bus travel for me. Having spent two months in Guatemala by the time I got there, I was not surprised by the poverty or conditions. That said, I didn’t find much other than the castle to be places I wanted to see more of. It was very hot and humid in early July.Guest review byannecieUnited States

The port staff were really helpful in ringing the hotel and the boat came immediately. Staff were really helpful in hiring us a boat for a full day on the river and organised it all. The room was a great jungle lodge experience with extremely comfortable beds (best we've ever slept in) and very hot showers. Food was gorgeous from the restaurant and very reasonable.
