We enjoyed San Pedro. it was picturesque with the beautiful lake and mountains. It was walkable, also easy to get a TukTuk. If you walk up the hill into the village, you get past the tourist streets and see local life. There are plenty of restaurants and shops. Many of the restaurants had seating that looked out over the lake. The souvenir market sellers are not pushy. We went to a Mayan museum, Tzunun' Ya'. It was informative about the formation of the lake and the traditional life of the Mayan people. After one week in San Marcos which is great I got borred and went to the most popular tourist village on the lake San Pedro which is more authentic, cheaper, full of good restaurants and bars. San Pedro La Laguna is a great spot to experience Lake Atitlan. There are a lot of activites such as paddleboarding, taking a tuktuk to San Juan, visiting the mercado or doing Spanish school. We saw this hotel and went there. it was more than the normal backpacker accommodation. However, it was very quite and not a social place, depends on what you like. The rooms are cheap and have a private bathroom. The host didn't try to rip us off, he was very nice (but he didn't speak english).
