The location was amazing. Right in the center of it all. The view from the balcony was stunning. We loved to sit outside sipping wine and taking it all in. People were very helpful and friendly. Was wondering if I should’ve stayed in Jelsa or Stari Grad. Happy we stayed in Hvar Town. Kids loved it too (17, 14, 12).

Mate met me at ferry port and took my bag up many stairs. I was early and he offered me breakfast. Checked me in early. Gave me choice of two rooms. Bed was very comfortable and Mate brought my bag back to ferry port on my departure. Enjoyed my one night stay. Very accommodating hotel. Breakfast was very good too.

Words cannot describe the beauty of this hotel. The moment you set foot on its grounds, you are welcomed by the friendliest people on earth, (the gorgeous views are a plus). Once you are there, you will never want to leave. The hotel is well maintained and spotless. The rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast includes wide varieties (with a fantastic -and super friendly- egg station chef). The pool area is beautiful, and you can directly access a beach right in front of the hotel. Walking from and to the hotel from the center of Hvar is lovely and enjoyable (20 smooth minutes). But the hotel staff are the reason our stay was perfect. Kristina and Mia from reception, Dino, Nikola, Sara, and Marco from the pool bar, the gentleman who carried our luggage, the entire breakfast staff, and the house-keeping team (sorry I could not remember everyone’s names).. They all worked relentlessly to make us feel welcomed. These people know how to personalize your stay, and they will do anything to put a smile on your face.

My stay at Riva Marina Hvar was nothing short of exceptional. The moment I stepped into my room, I was captivated by the breathtaking sea view that stretched endlessly, providing a serene and picturesque backdrop for my entire stay. The room itself was beautifully appointed, clean, and equipped with all the modern comforts to make my stay relaxing and enjoyable. What truly made this experience stand out was the impeccable service. The staff at Riva Marina Hvar were not only professional but genuinely warm and welcoming. Their attentiveness and willingness to assist with any request made me feel truly valued as a guest. Whether it was recommendations for local attractions, dining options, or simply ensuring everything in the room was perfect, they handled it all with a smile. The hotel’s location by the marina added to its charm, offering easy access to the waterfront and scenic spots in Hvar. Every detail, from the ambiance to the thoughtful touches by the staff, contributed to an unforgettable stay. I highly recommend Riva Marina Hvar to anyone seeking a luxurious and peaceful getaway. FAQs about hotels in Hvar

Echoes of the Age of Empires

Hvar is the largest city on the Croatian island of the same name within the Adriatic Sea. The wildly undulating coastline formed a natural harbour here, a fact which didn’t go unnoticed by the Venetians, who captured it as part of their empire. The Venetian Fortress sits atop a hill and 13th-century ramparts descend to the old town.

Another castle from Napoleonic times is on a different hill offering beautiful views over red roofs towards the offshore Pakleni islands sheltering the port. Ferries link Hvar to neighbouring Brač and Vis islands, Split and Ancona in Italy.

Given the size of the city, the amount of Hvar accommodation is staggering, and Booking.com offers everything from luxury hotels with pools to cheap guest houses and beachfront apartments. Although most beaches are rocky, their scenic setting and warm turquoise waters are still a draw.

At the heart of the city is the largest square in Dalmatia. Restaurants and bars spill out onto its cobbles, ending at St Stephen’s Cathedral with its see-through belltower. Around the same time the cathedral was going up, one of Europe’s oldest theatres was constructed in the waterfront Arsenal. The Loggia is the only remain of the Governor’s Palace, and the Hvar Heritage Museum helps to put all this in context.

Don’t visit in November. Only one restaurant operating in evening and one or two cafes open in town centre. Catamaran from Split to Hvar town can be cancelled the day before due to weather. Leaves large ferry to Stari Grad only option over.

The main town of Hvar is very small but historic, and could be easily visited in a day. It is also a great place to end a vigorous holiday in other parts of Europe if you just want to relax and explore a bit. The views are spectacular, people are friendly, it is not overly crowded (we were there a bit after peak season) and prices are not totally unreasonable. If you are looking for more adventures, choose your activities carefully as most of the day trips are rather long and mostly pretty boring, except for the people you meet along the way. A great little restaurant/bar is Falko along the seawall near Pebble Beach; excellent food, great service and a fabulous view.

This was the perfect Adriatic vacation. Best mix of historical sites, sea-side exursions, excellent restaurants, and time to relax as well. Be prepared to walk a lot and have proper footware for walking on the rocky beaches.

I loved Hvar.

I loved Hvar. Scenery beautiful, great restaurants in the town at the back of the main square, very pretty settings some are expensive to other European travels I've been on. Our favourite restaurants were Black Pepper, Fig, Junior. Would not choose to visit July/August main town can be very busy. Sun beds along the coast can be expensive to hire. Saying this I travelled as a couple In September and we loved Hvar.

Love, love, love Hvar, however, it is tough going if you are not fabulously fit. I am in my mid 60s and swim 3km a week and walk about 5kms a day. My husband has a prosthetic leg. I found the steps challenging, they were almost impossible for my husband. Hindsight.... stay in Split and use the ferry to do a day trip - leave on the early ferry and stay until the last daily ferry. Hvar is seasonal a few restaurants in the back blocks are starting to close for the year. By the end of October we are told 1 restaurant remains open until April. Oh... I should mention is it not a cheap getaway.

Located on the water a few minutes walk from Hvar old town, Hotel Moeesy is a small slice of paradise. Incredible views over the water, super-comfortable beds and beautifully appointed rooms, a wonderful breakfast and the most friendly and helpful staff are what made the hotel an exceptional getaway for us. A special mention to Dominic, our friendly and most helpful waiter (who incidentally is studying for his Masters in Engineering) made the stay an absolute pleasure.

One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in! The location couldn’t be more perfect. You’re within short walking distance to the port and the centre of Hvar town, yet still in a quiet and relaxing area. The view of the church and crystal blue waters are such a treat to wake up to every morning. The decor is very tasteful! We really enjoyed the selection at breakfast too. The staff are very friendly and can’t do enough for you!
