I recently spent a week in Rijeka, and it turned out to be a wonderful surprise. It’s not the most obvious choice for a vacation in Croatia, but that’s exactly what makes it special. The city has a relaxed, authentic atmosphere, with a mix of history, culture, and modern life that feels very genuine. The historic center is full of charm, the harbor area is lively yet not overcrowded, and there are plenty of cozy cafés and restaurants to enjoy. It’s also a great base for day trips — from beautiful beaches and islands nearby to the scenic mountains just a short drive away. Rijeka is the kind of place that grows on you: not flashy, but warm, welcoming, and real. There is a BBQ place, fresh fruits in the garden and garden is covered with big plants which give some cool and privacy during hot croatian summer. There is also fully functional jacuzzi which we used every day. Place is close enough to beaches, restaurants and bus stop which can get you to the city center in 10 minutes. Breakfast was great, fresh, plentiful and varied. The room was clean and well furnished and we heard hotel facilities are great, although we didn't have the time to use them. The staff was amazing. The apartment looks great, it is perfectly clean, the kitchen has a range of cooking spices which I haven't used much 😁 but is so well equipped. Great steam iron. Bed 🔥. Shame the apartment doesn't have a sauna, it would be perfect, but I went to a nearby hotel for a spa. The owner is a smart and funny woman.
