Peaceful place with wonderful view from the hilltop
We were go to Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi, and choose the path to Bukit Plawangan. The track has lots of damaged trails, so we have to carefully pass them several times. This was a medium level tracking, the path has only 2 km length with 2 hours walk. Its so peaceful here at the weekdays, not so many trekker going here. We only met 5 local people, 2 of them are tradesman who has little coffee and tools shop at the hilltop.
The area doesn't have public transportation, the only public transportation up there is motorbike taxi. so if you are going to go there by public transportation from Yogya or Tempel, try to negotiate with the driver to take you to National Park Area. Because they only end at Pasar Pakem, which is 7km away from the National Park. The driver we met take us there from Tempel for only 40,000 rupiah for both of us (about 3.1 USD) it's cheaper than if we use motorbike taxi (15,000 rupiah / 1.2 USD each from Pakem to National Park)
There's quite a lot of food vendors so we don't have to worry about food. There's a lot of rabbit meat here but we can't eat them. We just don't have the heart for it.
Kaliurang has many recreation areas, so be sure you pick the right hotel close to your destination.
