#1 of 1 hotels in Ballaghaderreen
Ballaghaderreen, a hidden gem Irelands crown. We stayed here as after doing my family tree I discovered this is where my Gg grandad was born and Ggg grandad in Castlerea which is very close by. I went with an open mind not knowing what to expect, it's a lovely little quaint village with Authentic Ale houses, lovely friendly local people and lots of character. Ideally situated as a base allowing you to explore surrounding towns & villages. I would return without hesitation.
We arrived after 8pm on a Friday night and the place was very busy but staff looked after us. We decided to have dinner there at the bar which was very nice and reasonably priced. The room we got was massive(premium room). It was quiet and very comfortable, the shower was terrific. Breakfast was very tasty and more than enough. Staff all very friendly. Ballaghaderreen seems like a nice little town although we didn't have enough time to explore it. Very handy for Knock airport which is why we were there. But would be a great base for exploring that side of the country. Will definitely stay there again.
A busy, pleasant, small market town. We eat at our hotel (Durkins) but there appeared to be a number of places to eat. Has a few pints in Tommy Mannions pub which was very friendly. We were visiting family nearby so did not enquire into "tourist attractions". I have played golf at Ballaghadereen many times and it is a good course
Ballaghaderreen as a town is quite run down. Lots of vacant shops which in reality should be demolished I thought. But some streets were really nice. The housing areas were very neat and tidy. The meals I ate in Durkins Bar were very good and I also discovered a great Chinese take-away around the corner from Durkins.
I enjoyed Ballaghaderreen . It is a very peaceful place, I never heard one Siren from any of the services and I never saw a Policeman or any Incidents. I was hear visting a friend and this was just perfect fro my requirements
“Very good value for money. Has everything a group of 5-6 people would need for a comfortable weekend stay. The hosts left us some tea, coffee, milk and sugar and enough fuel to get a fire started. Very thoughtful. Quiet location within a few hundred meters of the shops/pubs in Ballaghaderreen. Older house but a very clean one. Will book again.”
“good local hotel and value for money”
