It was a perfect location, pub and take away next door completed the experience. It had everything needed! We were able to watch the rugby match and play pool in the pub. I loved seeing the tractors go by in the morning.

If you are looking for cutting-edge city life, this is not for you. Dundalk is a former railway town, largely built round the (now defunct) works for the GNRI and with much 19th century red-brick architecture. It has a busy high street with a lot of small shops, pubs and restaurants, none are grand, it reminds me of similar towns in the UK before planning blight took hold. A lot of effort seems to have gone into smartening the place up in recent years, which is nice. Would that other towns of its scale have survived so well it would be nothing exceptional, but as so few have, it has a real charm. As a base, it is well sited to explore the countryside around, which has a long and interesting history, with a lot of historic sites.

Dundalk in County Louth, the wee county, provided an incredible outpouring of creativity to celebrate Brigid1500. The Northern Lights Light Show in Market Square, the murals and storefronts painted with signs of Spring and Brigid, the cultural production at An Tain Theatre and the County Museum. We were there for 4 days and we made the Proper Cafe "our cafe". The staff were very welcoming and remembered us and the food was great! We also took a bus to Carlingford and enjoyed a short hike and great views of Carlingford Lough. Also, the home of Thomas Darcy McGee, and Father of Canadian Confederation.

At St. Patrics Day there were no free hotel in good price in Dublin. This choice for accomodation was the best choice, only 1 hour from Dublin by train, and found a very nice pansion with polite people.

The Imperial Hotel is a lovely comfortable hotel with very friendly helpful staff. The location of the hotel is very central and the town centre and shopping are just a short stroll from the door. My husband enjoyed a very pleasant evening at the races in Ireland's only all weather racecourse, just a short Taxi ride away, while I browsed and shopped in the nearby Shopping Centre. We dined in the hotel, where the food was excellent. We had a lovely restful two day break, and we plan to return there in the future.

People were very friendly, a lot of greetings while out walking the street on a wet morning, likewise staff in shops all very welcoming, the town could do more to promote it's history and some beautiful surroundings within close proximity, unfortunately there are a lot of derelict or dilapidated buildings around the town. The town also could do with a better range of dining experiences The Spotted Dog was excellent but a few more restaurants at that end of the market would be very welcome.

Dundalk has lots of potential.

Dundalk has lots of potential. Nicely laid out town and looking very well Unfortunately the people of Dundalk don't know the meaning of good customer service, very cold and unwelcoming. We didn't meet a single friendly face in the bars or resteraunts, customer service was NIL!

Lovely place to stay. The hosts are welcoming and helpful. My room was very clean and comfortable. I had a much needed good night's sleep. The facilities are good. If i had any reservations, it would only be that the shower in my ensuite was basic and not very powerful , however the temperature controls were fine just the pressure not brilliant but all in all this is a great place to lay your head and the price for this area is very good so I would like to return the next time I am working in Dundalk.

The hotel stay was above my expectations. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very spacious, comfortable, warm and nicely decorated. Bed was especially comfortable! Breakfast was fresh and very tasty, with the nice selection of food to offer. Dining area was very elegant, with the plenty of light. Overall, if you want supremely nice hotel in a quiet area, at an affordable price, this hotel is for you. We all enjoyed our stay and we'll definitely visit it again.

Spacious, comfortable room with beautiful spa bath. Great to be able to open the window for fresh air. The menu includes a vegan section which was excellent and the food overall was really good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful gardens and the Secret Garden cafe was very nice. During the week when the hotel was not so busy, it was really enjoyable to sit in the lobby or lounge areas.

Very nice comfortable hotel, plenty of seating areas for residents. We ate in the bar each evening where the food was good, although the menu was rather limited and the lack of staff meant we had to wait to be served sometimes.
