The people on the street actually speak to you when they meet you. It's a very relaxing town, where one can switch off. There's a pub/restaurant called The Squealing Pig. The staff were lovely, and the food was fabulous. My one regret is not going inside a local cathedral which was massive, gothic in style and gorgeous from the outside. Monaghan town seems to have no real focal centre but this doesn't stop it from being a warm and interesting place to stay for a few days. I suggest a visit to the County Museum first in its brilliant new home. The present displays give you a feel for the region and the peoples over centuries as they lived and live their lives in a genuine "borderland". Congratulations to the Museum curators. I already shared my experience with the meadows but it said it did t go through so I will say again it was amazing and the people who ran it treated us like princesses and the breakfast was amazing and they even gave us a ride to the bus station and the mall was cool and flemings was my favorite to visited along with sound quality gifts and two local bars we were all set . Go to the SVP charity shop!
Go to the SVP charity shop! We passed through on the way to Donegal and found some of the best bargains of our lives. Neighbourhood is a lovely dinner spot, if on the expensive side.
