One of my favourite Irish cities - Sligo has it all.

One of my favourite Irish cities - Sligo has it all. Great shops and event spaces including a great theatre and a sizeable event arena. The pubs are brilliant and offer entertainment year round. The city centre is very walkable and everything you need is close by. The restaurants on offer are among the best in Ireland including top spots like Eala Bhán and Hooked, locally owned and sourcing local high quality produce.

Early in the week on an October Monday, you'll find the town fairly quiet, though I was told it does get busier as the week goes on. We were only there a day and a night, but could have stayed longer if it had been possible. So much history in the town, beautiful scenery surrounds Sligo, in particular, The Wild Atlantic way. You just need to fix on a destination and you'll be blown away by the views.

Local pubs were fun and the people very friendly. Started at The Railway, visited the Sligo Abbey then ate and had a couple pints of Guinness at Hargodan’s after went to O’Neill’s Bar to finish off the evening.

Our accommodation host guided us to the location of live Irish music that we then enjoyed nightly, which we possibly wouldn't have found without his guidance. The people of the town are very friendly - especially in the shops.

The riverfront shops, multiple cuisines worth of restaurants, and other sights are well worth a wander through. I enjoyed the preserved bits of industrial history, as well as how that intersects with the Yeats trail. Public transport was extra convenient, with main bus station, rail station, and small cluster of essential shops right at the end of the street.
