Calcutta or Kolkata is a city with contradictions. It has intriguing colonial history. But going around Kolkata is a challenge.
We loved the British structures around the city including the vibrant Part Street. A drink at Trinca's is a must. Food is varied and yummy esp. Bengali cuisine (Sonar Tori in Salt Lake mall is very good).
It is called the City of Joy but the cleanliness could be much much better.
People are warm and friendly. A cruise over river Hoogly is a must.

I always enjoy visiting Kolkata, the city where i grew up in my early adulthood. Kolkata, The city of joy provides a friendly atmosphere to anyone who visits here. The city is dotted with many sight seeing places of importance.

I am not sure that what I love about Kolkata is what will appeal to others. I love the variety, the vibrance, the unexpected, the kindness of the people towards me as a foreigner. Don't just visit the known tourist sites. There are quirky museums, buzzing night markets and parks that bring a breath of fresher air (and opportunities for bird watching) where people will want to chat to you and tell you about their India.

Kolkata is an exceptional city. To enjoy it, one has to have an open mind. It is a very crowded city and can be jarring sometimes. One has to look for hidden delights and tucked away gems. So explore.

This a very old city of mixed culture. This is called "City of Joy". This is a very crowded city. But one should be careful while moving. Various restaurants with affordable price is available including street food. Convenience are cheap to move around. People in general are helpful to foreigners.

A lot to see and doing some guided tours recommended. It is hot, humid and possibly raining so need to pace yourself.
If you're visiting during festivals it can be very busy.
Highlights for us were the flower market, Howrah bridge and station, visiting the pandals during Durga Puja, the booksellers on College street and browsing the multiple markets and shopping malls (air conditioned.)

Taj City Center is one of the best property in New Town Area. The best of this hotel is the hospitality offered to you is superb. No one can beat Taj's hospitality as they will spoil you with services and personal care. We stayed 5 days there and we felt like home away from our home. Special mention to Mr. Sanjay from the room service who is the best to take care of all your needs. The breakfast is good with choice of Indian and continental choices. In overall one of the best hotel I have stayed so far.

The Hotel is located on Russel Street and is within walking distance from Park Street (approx 1.5 Kms). The buffet breakfast is very sumptuous and caters for varied tastes. The live counter provided South Indian, North Indian and Continental items.
Housekeeping did an excellent job. Staff at the reception and the restaurant are very courteous and helpful.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will recommend it to family and friends.

Lovely hotel in a central location nearby the main shopping area of Camac Street and Park Street. Very safe and affordable. Friendly and professional services by the staff making you feel very comfortable and had a relaxing and enjoyable stay here. Definitely recommended and will sure to visit this hotel again when in Kolkata.

The location of this hotel is very convenient. Walking distance from the New market, Marquis street and park street. The price that I got during my stay was great with breakfast. Recommended for short stays in Kolkata.
