Although I live in Karnataka, this was my first visit to Hampi. If you enjoy history, it is a must visit. There is so much to see and with the services of a good guide, so much to learn. Most of the sites are very well presented. There are a fair number of clean toilets around which is important when you are out and about all day. We had our own car so it was easy to get around, but we did notice many large autos ferrying around families and groups as well. Our absolute favorite activity was heading out in a coracle from near the Kodanda Rama temple and climbing up and down boulders to see some very beautiful sculptures, carvings and ruins. We had good meals in our hotel (we stayed at the Heritage Resort Hampi), but we had lunch one day at Mango Tree which was fabulous. We saw many families with young children around and all of the children looked miserable. In my view, the place is too hot and too boring for young children to be dragged around the regular tourist spots. Overall it was a great trip and there is still so much we didn't see and do, so we are definitely planning to go back at some point.

Hampi is a dream world.
Hampi is a dream world. With monuments scattered like jewels all over, it is truly a city of victory as it overwhelms you with its rich tapestry of culture, art and devotion. The astonishing temple architecture, unique creations like the musical pillars, stone chariot, the 11 storeys of Virupaksha, the step well tank, the ferocious statue of Lakshmi Narasimha, hazaar Ram temple, the lotus palace take your breath away. Then kicks in the pride of being an Indian, of being born in the country and land of King Krishnadev Raya.
The leisurely walk along the mighty Tungbhadra thru Kampabhupa marg peering into Sugrivas cave, Rama temple and varha temple , taking in the sights and smells of the flora and fauna , gradually realising that this is also Kishkindha of Ramayan kaal.
That we are walking on the lands of our revered Gods and mighty kings who shaped the destiny of our beloved country fills one with awe and devotion.

It was an amazing experience.
It was an amazing experience. We went for Holi and it was worth it. The only pain point was the weather. It was too hot so I would definitely recommend you go either during monsoon or post that. Apart from that the landscape is very unique and beautiful.

Hampi is a very special place even if you just want to watch...
Hampi is a very special place even if you just want to watch the sunrise or the sunset, however it alot more to offer with the history of the city. I fully rec
ommend you hire a qualified guide for the day it costs around 2500/3000 but well worth it otherwise your just walking around ancient sites not knowing what it all was. It's very spread out so you need transport, scooters tuktuk taxi. Alot is free but some places you need to pay it costs 600 which lets you into 3 of the locations. The temple elephant goes down to the river for its daily bath which is a good experience as you can get in the river near to it. Just enjoy it

The bazaar and shanty town under the towers of the ancient Virupaksha towers has great character and a superb position among these enigmatic ruins, but most hotels and facilities.are fairly compromised. for space and ammenities, probably not available in Hampi Old Town. This is backpacker world and is pretty basic. That clear, this is a fun place with great staff, perfect English, and really good food and services downstairs. The upper roof area has wonderful views and the owners will really look after your sightseeing itineraries
First mention we have to make of the host Raghu is a great person. He was super helpful and always available for any kind of guidance. His family is super warm and we had our best meals in Hampi at his house which were prepared by his mother in their kitchen . the location is super convenient and the view from the terrace of the green fields is beautiful. You also get to experience the local village life.
You're in the heart of the city, very homely and super clean room & washroom. Kishore and his appa were the best hosts, great recommendations and even made arrangements on request. Communication with the host was friendly and they were available throughout the stay.
Tip: You may not need to book air con as the room itself is rather cool and has a super strong fan.
The room is comfortable for couples, the home stay is situated near Hampi old city. If you have your own vehicle then it will be very comfortable for visiting all the sites. The hosts are also very welcoming and helpful. For the money they charge this could be the best place you can find.
Very nice hotel. The fact that it is situated inside Vidyanangar makes it truly attractive as the region is very quiet, green and a pleasure to walk/cycle around in the evening. Though it is a bit of a drive from Hampi, and the highway is not in good shape.
