The staff were incredibly attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. Meenakshi Amman Temple is the best!
Meenakshi Amman Temple is the best! Stay away from rogue agents/cheats offering special darshan charging INR 1500.00 per head, not worth and not required. Any major temple in india will take about an hour long queue and these agents also get you in the same by cutting few mins but charging too much money. Try to spend some time in queue enjoying the ambiance architecture etc and remain calm by chanting... you need blessing of the godesss and don't try to buy with money.

The auto drivers who operate near the MGR bus stand and at all locations were very rude and ruthless, they don't care about the visitors coming to their town from different states, all they bother is to dominate, dictate and make quick money. Very close by to where we stayed, we found the garbage was stinking and some were using for LOO in the open, some were found urinating .. overall the city lacks basic amenities and administrative issues needs top most attention.
Places like ARULMIGU KALLAZHAGAR SUNDARARAJA PERUMAL TEMPLE, Palamudizholai, Tiruparankundran are great places to visit. Food is good at Bhagwati Mohan's Bhojanalaya, Modern Restaurant for Tiffin and Temple City are recommended. You will need about 3-4 days to explore all these places with adequate time at your disposal.

We visited several times before five years.
We visited several times before five years. Now moderate chances are feeled. But it is Nice. It was a very short visit nothing more to say. Only night we went Sabarees restarent and it was great. We visited all temples at Madurai, Tiruparamkunram and Algar Malai with Pazhamuthisolai.

Madurai has a lot of places to visit so you need to schedule enough time - may be at least three to four days to do justice.
City has changed a lot during the last five to ten years - traffic is very chaotic especially with narrow roads and the phenomenal increase in two wheeler riders. There is no direction from the railway station. There is infrastructure and development work going on at the main entrance for a long time now so some better direction is needed for people who are visiting for the first time.

Madurai has the greatest eye hospital in the country.
Madurai has the greatest eye hospital in the country. We made use of that and spent an entire morning at the Arvind Eye Hospital - the checkup is always so thorough and the doctors and nurses are incredible!

This hotel is walkable from Meenakshi temple with both North Indian & South Indian restaurants options also walkable. As a tourist you will have enough shopping options near this hotel. This Hotel is a budget hotel with basic facilities, don't expect luxury facilities here. My preference was to stay close to the temple and in a hotel with basic/comfortable stay which this hotel provided.

First, Moskva hotel management automatically cancelled my booking which is booked thru Booking.com. They informed about the cancellation when I reach Madurai. Then I had to search another hotel. This is very very bitter experience for me. hotel management does not care about the on-line booking.
I will never consider this hotel for my future bookings.

JC Residency is located in a decent area of Madurai not too far from the Marriott Hotel. The rooms are large and comfortable with modern bathrooms and good Wi-Fi. There is a swimming pool and an Indian breakfast with some western options is served every morning. I enjoyed my stay at JC Residency and do recommend it for a short stay in Madurai.

Hotel location is excellent - close to Madurai Junction, close to some good restaurants., a 15-min walk to Meenakshi Amman Temple. Easy to get an 'Auto' as soon as you walk out to the street. Mani's Residency also operate their onw tour cab service, at very reasonable price. The staff also helped with few local area tips.
