What a laidback and peaceful spot. The staff were truly excellent, so helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our breakfasts overlooking the sea. The restaurant next door was also good and an easy option for dinner after a day out exploring.

The whole vibe at calaila was really warm. Hats off to the team who made the stay really special. It's home away from home is what I can say. The food , the property , the people everything was top notch. Don't come here expecting commercial hotel vibe. Very close to the varkala cliff. Their plunge pool cottages and rooms are really unique. Their new swimming pool is also awesome

A good break.
We went there off-season. So, a lot of shops were shut. We stayed away from the central cliff area but within walking/cabbing distance.
Not much crowd, the weather was good. The cliff-beach walk was a good different experience.
In the evening, the cliff side restaurants have a Goa-feel. Lots of small hidden cafes and eateries. We picked a hotel (B'Canti) with a swimming pool, so got the water fix. The sea was quite rough this season (July).
Don't miss the Kaapil beach where the river/stream meets the sea. We spent quite some time there, thanks to a tip from a waiter (Darjeeling cafe - also good for lunch, and ice cream).
A visit to the Mangroves is a must-do. You can either kayak or go on a boat.

I stayed in Varkala for 3 nights.
I stayed in Varkala for 3 nights. This was mainly due to train timings. 2 nights would’ve been enough. I did a yoga class and auryvedic massage on the last day this would have been better in the second day.
What I did find slightly confusing was the references to North & South Cliff whereas I think South Cliff was an extension of the cliff walk - starting with North cliff.
Plenty of choice for food although a particular favourite was Sun Francisco - the Veg Tali was delicious and good value for money.

Varkala beach is busy very busy on weekends with lots of Indian tourists. The cliff side walk has lots of restaurants and shops. We found the beach a bit rough with the waves but beyond the waves it was calm . The stairs to the beach can be challenging if you have knee issues . It’s has a good atmosphere but we prefer less touristy places hence staying at Odayam each area .

Touristic place.
Touristic place. So lots of restaurants with a large variety of meals, bars, shops, ressorts, loud music, massage.
Best restaurant is Clafouti for me.
Nice beaches, big temple.
This is a tourist destination. India' s soul not there. Crowdy, noisy, pushy salesmen, beggers, stray dogs.
Pretty dirty environment cause of littering.
2 to 3 days stay is enough.

Beautiful views from the cliffs, plenty of beaches, option to learn surfing (!), good food, and the most gorgeous mangrove/backwaters (30 mins away).... that's Varakala in nutshell. Lovely cliffside walks with breaks for some ice cream at Scoopy or a whole Israeli breakfast(yummmm) at Buddha Bar. We loved ABBA for all other hunger pangs. Having a rented scooter to go around the places away from the cliffs helps, but there were plenty of Autos as well.
The hotel is situated very near the North Cliff, the room was very big with 2 balconies,it was very clean. The breakfast menu was limited but I think it was because there were not many guests the same applied for dinner as we had booked for half board. The swimming pool was clean and well kept with sunbeds. The hotel has a gym and a Spa where you can book a ayurvedic massage. A beautiful hotel in kerala style.
Amazing hotel with very good rates. I think it's a 4 star, not 3 star. Extremely clean, luxurious and comfortable. I much prefer to stay here than in varkala which is just 15 minutes away. Much more comfortable and also much cheaper!
The property is situated near the north cliff of the Varkala beach, so it is a really good option to stay.
The owner is really helpful and the property is new and super nice so will definitely suggest to stay here.
Overall good experience in the hostel with friendly staff members. Hosts Aatif and Abil were amazing. Varkala North cliff is just a walk away hence great location.
