Set 2.5 mi from Hvolsvöllur and on the banks of the East Rangá River, Aurora Lodge Hotel has a sauna and 2 outdoor hot tubs overlooking open terrain, Mount Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull. After driving around the Golden Circle and stopping at the Secret Lagoon, we arrived to the Lodge to an unexpected outstanding dinner - one of the best meals I have had in Iceland and all the meals have been excellent! Staff is very friendly. Location is special because you are in the country, yet accommodations are top quality. Room is a bit small, but very comfortable and extremely clean. View from the Lodge is a 10! Highly recommended.

Hvolsvöllur is a great location to stop before heading south, or upon returning north. Its a quiet, small town, but in a great location for accessing Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, and the secret mountain hot spring !!
It's a very cute town and we decided to stay here for a rest day/ night and it was a good decision! The hostel Midgard was beautiful to stay at and there was a grocery store and pizza place within short walking distance. It's a great town to just stop by in if you need a quiet day!
We were having trouble finding a guesthouse in Vík so we ended up staying in Hvolsvöllur and it was the perfect town to stop in on our first day in Iceland. We grabbed sandwiches from the grocery store next to Eldstó for dinner and then we had breakfast at Eldstó! Which was wonderful. We did not get to explore much of the town as we were only passing through, but it makes the perfect pit stop for Ring Road travelers.
The accommodations were nice. Room was very clean and comfortable. Excellent view and setting. Breakfast was very well presented with an abundant variety of food choices. The 3 course dinner offered sounded very delicious but was a bit pricey.

In our 33-day trip through Canada, the US, and Iceland, this accommodation represented our first stay on Iceland. It is well located between a ‚big’ supermarket in Hvolsvöllur and the sightseeing spots of Þórsmörk or the Seljalands falls. Since our arrival was early, we were very happy to see that the staff let us check in at 11 pm. The room was very clean, so was the bath, the kitchen was well equipped, and the social room gives a lot of space to eat or play with your baby.

What a place to stay and we are so glad to have booked here rather than the other options. A very welcoming reception and guest lounge with a bar and a restaurant. But this restaurant is not your usual hotel restaurant...this was five star dining. The staff are very helpful and friendly, accommodation is roomy and comfortable, especially the beds.

We loved everything there and especially the kindness of our host! There is a real coffee maker (I was desperate for coffee in Iceland...), microwaves, hairdryer and even hair straightener ladies! The room size if perfect, with a table and 2 chairs, wide window and very comfy matresses. We would definitely go back there!
