We used the low fare TUA local buses to San Leone beach, and Porto Empedocle, and Valley of Temples. We walked in the derelict, abandoned, dystopian vast Parco d' Adellorata, down below cathedral. Valley of Temples is downhill walk from town, with pavements.
Walked along beautiful beach between Porto Empedocle and Turkish Steps about 2 miles (beyond disused power station). Great swimming beaches, lovely sand. Facilities only at Turkish steps end.
Try the train to Agrigento Bassa station and see town from different angle!
There are many abandoned, crumbling buildings and many stray cats.
We are grassroots level travellers!

Agrigento is a pleasant town. In all fairness, we went there because is the town near the Valley of the Temples, moreover, our hotel, the Villa Athena resort is located about 500-600 feet from the Temples.

Loved it! The ruins are incredible!
Loved it! The ruins are incredible! Got lost in them for hours and hours. Most memorable. The guidebooks were right....enter the park at the top, not at the bottom....makes for much easier walking!

Also we spent half day to see the valley of temple. The best place we stayed in Sicily so far. Property is well maintained, rooms are clean and nice, especially the ones with the sea view. Pool and the area is outstanding.
We spent 3 days in this tranquil and cosy place. Owners are very kind and the fact that there are not so many rooms gave very personal touch to our holiday, which is exactly what we were looking for in a crazy period of August.
Will come back and recommend to everyone.
Thank you!
Our hosts are some of the nicest people that we met in Sicily. They met us at the edge of downtown and guided us through the narrow streets to the b&b. They even gave us a ride to the laundromat. The breakfast was more than wonderful. We felt more like friends than hotel guests. Grazie mille
The host is exceptional, the location is great and the flat has everything you need. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are spacious and clean. There is free parking near by. The kitchen and living room is fully equipped.
One of the best flat we had during our holidays in sicily.
The hosts Fabio and Sandro were very welcoming and we had the most amazing breakfasts trying Sicilian delicacies. We also loved our packed lunches of breakfast leftovers - very handy for a day exploring the temples or down the beach. Best shower we’ve had in Sicily and very comfy bed.
Great hosts, very helpful, and a wonderful place with easy access to the Main Street. Don’t get me started on the breakfast, most certainly the best we had in Sicily.
