United StatesAlghero was a last minute decision, and I was delightfully surprised by and impressed with the accommodation! Clean, cool, on the bus line to the historic center and a 5 minute walk across the bridge to Fertilia for the local grocery and restaurants with a nice little waterfront. Quiet! The Roman bridge was also a highlight. Breakfast was a good spread and the restaurant/bar on site was convenient.

IsraelFirstly, the hotel location was amazing its sea front as well. The beds are so confutable, the bathroom is clean and there was hot water all the time, hotel staff is very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast had so many different things.
The location is perfect really 10-15 minutes walk from old city center, and 5 minutes walk to hotel san marco.

Sardinia’s Catalan Gem
The walled town of Alghero on Sardinia’s west coast has an altogether more down-to-earth vibe than the more exclusive Emerald Coast on the opposite side of the island. In fact, it feels more Catalan than Italian.
The seafront walls and defensive towers surrounding the historic center were actually built by the Catalans in the 16th century, and many residents still speak a dialect from that era. However, Sardinia has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and the Nuraghe di Palmavera stone dwellings outside the town are evidence of this. Another nuraghic site is Anghelu Ruju, near Alghero Fertilia Airport.
South of the airport is sandy Maria Pia Beach which continues all the way to Alghero harbor and is lined with beachfront hotels, bars and restaurants offering tasty seafood, including local lobster. Boat trips leave the harbor to Neptune’s Grotto along the coast. Next door is Nereo Cave, supposedly the largest Mediterranean sea cave and a popular diving spot.
Also worth visiting are the pedestrian streets of the old town, packed with shops and sidewalk cafés. Also here are the 16th-century Palazzo d’Albis and the cathedral with its mixed architectural styles.

Alghero old town was lovely but busy in the evening. Would recommend making reservations if you wish to eat at a particular restaurant. Alghero beach was ok there are some fantastic beaches not too far away so a hire car is a must to explore further afield. Parking in Alghero can be a problem, there is limited free on street parking. Alghero is a great destination if visiting Sardinia. The old town is really beautiful and full of charm with lots of restaurants and shops. There is a local beach or if you have a car there are lots of fabulous beaches to visit nearby. Alghero exceeded all our expectations! We stayed in luxury apartments on Via Antonio Dalerci — everything was perfect: stylish design, high-end amenities, and a quiet location near the sea. We didn’t have a car so we relied on public transport, which was readily available. The old town wasn’t too far away so we spent a lot of time there wandering the laneways, very pretty. We also went sailing with Sailing in Sardinia, great day on the water with snorkelling and tasting local foods/drinks. Great place for a few days and to base yourself if you have a car to explore more of the North West corner. The bus for the airport is 1€ which you can buy in advance on DropTicket (app) , the bus label is ALFA, runs every hour and only took 20 minutes in peak hour to the airport. We had some great meals in Alghero , the best was a pizza place near the cake cafe on the walk back from the old town, soooooo good.Guest review byDebbieAustralia
