RomaniaHotel Calabona was an excellent choice for us for an extended weekend. The hotel is a real 4-star, classic, well-maintained hotel. The staff is extraordinarily supportive and that makes the difference. We were helped for things that were not necessarily the responsibility of the staff and it would have been very easy to say I don't know, it's not possible (reception, bistro). But people wanted to help sincerely and we appreciate it a lot (I would suggest the gentleman with the mustache, from the reception, night shift, to a bonus for the employee of the month, for his attitude and support). The breakfast is ok and we really liked that there are fruit juicers available for self-made fresh ones. The shuttle bus is free to the center (the cost is borne by the restaurant at Sepanto where hotel customers have a 10% discount) in certain time intervals and the driver is very kind. The beach is intimate and quiet, without music, only the sea can be heard, with a lifeguard during the day. There are rocks on the shore and it is easier to enter the water with water shoes, but it is also ok without). The massage is excellent. The rooms are clean and the mattresses are comfortable, plus full blackout curtains. Parking in the hotel yard (with payment) and free behind the hotel near the beach (within the limit of available places). Overall the quality/price ratio is honest, we will definitely come back. The transfer to/from AHO airport takes about 50 min by public bus, which has 1 stop in the center and 25 min by taxi/uber (50 eur +/-)

I even lost my wallet and it was immediately found and returned. It would have been a terrible consequence to lose my documents and I was saved!! We arrived on the 11th of September at 21.00 and we were greeted by a lovely lady who checked us in to room 104 with a sea view. Her advice on check in where to eat and what to see in Alghero was first class. Location 10 minutes walk to the beautiful old town and right across the road from the hotel is the beautiful sandy beach. Breakfast was good but again its the breakfast staff that make a real difference here. The air conditioning in the room was the best as it was hitting 37 degrees outside and the room was so cool. Front of house staff, breakfast staff, bar staff, cleaning staff and life guards as I said at the start if your people are right well then you are on a winner. Well done to the hotel Florida staff first class.

The location is perfect as a bit out of the hectic town, but only a few mins on the bus in. The hotel was perfect and the buffet breakfast and dinners were so great too! Little shop was very handy, resort had everything you could need - We will definitely be returning!

Sardinia’s Catalan Gem
The walled town of Alghero on Sardinia’s west coast has an altogether more down-to-earth vibe than the more exclusive Emerald Coast on the opposite side of the island. In fact, it feels more Catalan than Italian.
The seafront walls and defensive towers surrounding the historic center were actually built by the Catalans in the 16th century, and many residents still speak a dialect from that era. However, Sardinia has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and the Nuraghe di Palmavera stone dwellings outside the town are evidence of this. Another nuraghic site is Anghelu Ruju, near Alghero Fertilia Airport.
South of the airport is sandy Maria Pia Beach which continues all the way to Alghero harbor and is lined with beachfront hotels, bars and restaurants offering tasty seafood, including local lobster. Boat trips leave the harbor to Neptune’s Grotto along the coast. Next door is Nereo Cave, supposedly the largest Mediterranean sea cave and a popular diving spot.
Also worth visiting are the pedestrian streets of the old town, packed with shops and sidewalk cafés. Also here are the 16th-century Palazzo d’Albis and the cathedral with its mixed architectural styles.

We visited Alghero in the second part of August which is a top season for Italians vacationing. The town was packed but not overcrowded. You could easily find a spot at the beach, which is long and sandy. The rental of the sunbeds with umbrella was in average 30 E for two sunbeds. The town is very close to the airport - about 5 miles and a short taxi ride. We loved combining glimpse into the history in the old town and enjoying beautiful beach during the day. In the evening hours the restaurants were full (Italians eat very very late 10-11) so plan to make a reservation ahead of time if you don't want long wait. We also visited the most beautiful beach La Pelosa which is about an hour north from Alghero and the town of Sassari, another old town in the inland. Overall we are planning to return, as we had a great time in Alghero.Guest review byJasmina
