United KingdomWe landed and came straight to the hotel so the location was great because we could throw our things into the room and head straight out onto the beach. The rooms are lovely - white with blue accents which is beautiful next to the red tile stones.
The beach is literally on your front doorstep which I loved because you can dip between staying in your room, sunbathing on the beach or going in the sea whenever you like. Feels really nice and secluded with the private beach and sunbeds.
Great place to start the holiday!

RomaniaHotel Calabona was an excellent choice for us for an extended weekend. The hotel is a real 4-star, classic, well-maintained hotel. The staff is extraordinarily supportive and that makes the difference. We were helped for things that were not necessarily the responsibility of the staff and it would have been very easy to say I don't know, it's not possible (reception, bistro). But people wanted to help sincerely and we appreciate it a lot (I would suggest the gentleman with the mustache, from the reception, night shift, to a bonus for the employee of the month, for his attitude and support). The breakfast is ok and we really liked that there are fruit juicers available for self-made fresh ones. The shuttle bus is free to the center (the cost is borne by the restaurant at Sepanto where hotel customers have a 10% discount) in certain time intervals and the driver is very kind. The beach is intimate and quiet, without music, only the sea can be heard, with a lifeguard during the day. There are rocks on the shore and it is easier to enter the water with water shoes, but it is also ok without). The massage is excellent. The rooms are clean and the mattresses are comfortable, plus full blackout curtains. Parking in the hotel yard (with payment) and free behind the hotel near the beach (within the limit of available places). Overall the quality/price ratio is honest, we will definitely come back. The transfer to/from AHO airport takes about 50 min by public bus, which has 1 stop in the center and 25 min by taxi/uber (50 eur +/-)

Sardinia’s Catalan Gem
The walled town of Alghero on Sardinia’s west coast has an altogether more down-to-earth vibe than the more exclusive Emerald Coast on the opposite side of the island. In fact, it feels more Catalan than Italian.
The seafront walls and defensive towers surrounding the historic center were actually built by the Catalans in the 16th century, and many residents still speak a dialect from that era. However, Sardinia has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and the Nuraghe di Palmavera stone dwellings outside the town are evidence of this. Another nuraghic site is Anghelu Ruju, near Alghero Fertilia Airport.
South of the airport is sandy Maria Pia Beach which continues all the way to Alghero harbor and is lined with beachfront hotels, bars and restaurants offering tasty seafood, including local lobster. Boat trips leave the harbor to Neptune’s Grotto along the coast. Next door is Nereo Cave, supposedly the largest Mediterranean sea cave and a popular diving spot.
Also worth visiting are the pedestrian streets of the old town, packed with shops and sidewalk cafés. Also here are the 16th-century Palazzo d’Albis and the cathedral with its mixed architectural styles.
The Alghero accommodations on Booking.com include 5-star hotels with pools, cheap B&Bs and apartments with parking.

Nice city with a cute old town, perfect for visiting and strolling around a few days. Of course quite touristy in the main old town areas, but still a lot of place to discover and explore without too many crowds. Nice to be so close to the sea, and with car, easy access to some great beaches if you want to get away from the city itself.
Seemed to be quite a lot of nice restaurants available, we tried some, but a lot more to explore.
Definitely worth a visit, but don't plan for more than a couple of days, as it's quite small.

Great little town to wander around with fascinating shops and great choice of restaurants.
4 of us went on a day boat trip on the Andrea Padre with Nautisub and had a wonderful time with great food and a great crew. Saw some of the caves, a few stops for swimming and saw Dolphins and Tuna . A great atmosphere and great value.
The day was rounded by a fantastic meal at The Trattouria Cavour.

Weather, beaches, town were lovely.
Weather, beaches, town were lovely. The town is a treasurer trove of narrow lanes and excellent restaurants. However, restaurants/bars were expensive when compared to our hotel prices. We paid €16 for 2 400ml beers by the old walls of the town and only €9 for 2 660ml bottles of beer in our hotel.

Beautiful old town, clean, friendly, lots of nice restaurants, beautiful views. I think 3 days is enough to explore the old town area, if you have a car stay longer and visit the wider area. Other than wandering around for hours and hours, and eating way too much, I took a dolphin watch tour that was wonderful.

A great holiday resort.
A great holiday resort. Lovely beaches, lots of boat trips, great food and wine with the added bonus of a magnificent old town with ramparts overlooking the sea. There's also Neptunes caves - a must-see attraction.

The host is super kind! She doesn’t speak English but translates everything to English for you to understand.
The apartment has all the facilities needed when on holiday, and is super clean! The host welcomed us with Sardinian delicacies on the table, which were delicious btw :)
She also gave us some tips where to go and where to eat! And that is really helpful since there are hundreds of restaurants to choose from.
Overall i would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone traveling to Alghero. 10 out of 10!

The apartment is perfectly situated on the quiet side of Alghero and has epic views of the sea and Alghero old town. It felt much bigger than the photos suggest and was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The large terrace gets the sun in the evenings and you get front row seats to watch Sardinia’s amazing sunsets. Martina and Michela were on hand to answer any questions throughout my stay and there was a thoughtful welcome gift on arrival. I highly recommend this apartment and hope to return one day.

Hotel is literally on the beach, so straight from your door you have an access to Fertilia beach. Far away from crowded beaches closer to Alghero, so if you are looking for a quiet place to stay, this is a place for you. Staff very helpful, decent housekeeping. Lovely beach bar next door.

45 min from la pelosa beach ( must be seen)
2hrs to costa smeralda - porta Istana, definitely would recommend to see. Beautiful beach.

Great location, great price, nice pool, spacious room. It's not a 4-star hotel, as the hotel sign claims but it is very good value, right on the seafront. Nice walk to the old town.
Rented a bike from Biking Sardinia which is about 500m from hotel walking towards the old town. Very nice bloke running it, good bikes,reasonable price and lots of route info.

All of the staff, at the desk, at breakfast and cleaning were so friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect, basically on the beach and 20 minute walk to Alghero. We rented bikes for a day from the hotel which was great fun. The pool area was really nice and never felt too busy and holy moly the breakfast was AMAZING!
