It is a small town but we’ve done all the biggies and wanted a smaller town. Lots of restaurants for a small town but that’s probably because of the day trippers from Rome. Also Romans go there on weekends to escape the crowds of the city, especially this year because there are so many more tourists according to the locals and the food is really good. Some restaurants you might want to consider, Sor Capanna, great pizza, and pasta with boar sauce. Cumin Arte, they offer other things but this is definitely seafood oriented, great mussels and seafood options. Hosteria Fraschetta, we ate there a couple of times, the food is that good, a little bright inside but everyone was enjoying themselves one cool, rainy night. All of the above also have outdoor seating.

Location is brilliant, with clean and spacious apartment. Breakfast is not good. A lot of food is brought to the table however it’s cheap produce, eggs are scrambled, juice is orange squash with water and sausage is what I feed to my dog. Less is more change eggs to boiled, orange juice make sure it’s freshly squeezed, fresh tomatoes would be good plus milk, water, yoghurt and some chia seeds to start the day which would make the hotel stand out when compared to many others in Italy that seem to be all forgetting the importance of a healthy breakfast to start the day and best way to compliment the stay at the hotel which is equally important to having clean sheets and a comfortable bed to sleep on.

The village of Castel Gandolfo is very nice and it is an inexpensive option for areas immediately outside of Rome. We traveled by car and arrived on a Saturday afternoon and we learned it is very popular for weddings. Initially parking was difficult, but after the weddings ended there was convenient parking on Via Vigna di Corte, a one-way street that is parallel to the main pedestrian street and accessed by stairs.

A very atmospheric town with a lovely piazza, but traffic is heavy and parking difficult. The view of the lake is fantastic and Lago Albano is better viewed from a height than from ground level. The foreshore of the lake is quite scruffy and don’t even think about walking around it. The walking tracks are closed and the roads are not good for walking. All in all Albano is a more appealing, readily negotiated town, with great Roman sites.

So much to see in the area but the little old town held many unexpected treasures. Such a lot of antiquity in the area and so much to see at the popes summer residence with 55 ha of manicured gardens.
