Matera- impressive views, great food, amazing people. I love it. We met old people who told us of their life before we all had cars, showed us their wine and how they make it. To spend a night in a mountain house was super cool. I felt like in a fairy tail, everything was magical
Matera isn’t the easiest place to get to but it’s one of Italy’s treasures. Once considered the shame of Italy due to its extreme poverty, it has now been honored as the European Capital of Culture for 2019. It has been continuously inhabited since the 10th millenium B.C. The Sassi (look it up) are fascinating and the canyon setting is spectacular. Outstanding cultural museums at incredibly low entrance fees. Great food (especially the local bread) at reasonable prices.
So much history and so much beautiful scenery with all of the caves! Ate at a local recommended restaurant Caveoso was very good. The food was delicious all local fare. It was kind of crazy driving in and finding our hotel but walking otherwise was quite easy.
Such a interesting town with a great history. Be sure to watch the film at the Casa Noha and visit the most unusual and beautiful Museum of ContomporySculpture. Much to see in this town. We stayed 3days and found that just right.
One of the most magical places I have visited. I could have spent days getting lost in the labyrinth of streets, it is so enchanting and intriguing. Walking up and down all the steps is great exercise! The history of the Sassi is fascinating. I strongly recommend visiting the Archeological Park on the other side of the gorge, to see Matera from another perspective, and to take a nice walk in nature.
It was much bigger than I expected. Amazing panorama day and night. The hotel staff recommended us to do the guided tour and it was a right decision. You could hear the story of Matera and also could ask some questions to the guide while you are walking with a guide. I definitely recommend to take a guided tour and wear good walking shoes! Some part of the pavement were slippery. I also recommend to take an early morning or late afternoon (after 16:30) tour when it’s summer. The night view is also beautiful so you can go some restaurants with Sassi view.
The room was very new, spacious and clean. It had more of a hotel feel than many of the agriturismi that we’ve stayed at in Italy, but given its size and close interaction with the family that owned it, it was perfect. It is situated about ten minutes from Matera. I’m so glad that we chose this place as it allowed us to easily get to various destinations. The breakfasts were awesome and everyone was very kind and helpful. They were able to set us up last minute with a great tour guide to visit the Sassi. We really enjoyed our stay!
What a fantastic hidden little gem! The location is amazing, the facility was very clean and after a day of traveling we were welcomed warmly by our host with a bottle of wine! The host provided plenty of local maps and information, great restaurant recommendations and the prepared breakfast provided in the morning was top notch and quite the feast to get your day started. Matera is a magical place and I can’t wait to return again. I highly recommend this location to anyone planning on visiting Matera.
To sleep in a real cave in Matera was an amazing experience. To sleep in a cave with an incredible view, that is absolutely unique. The location couldnt be better. On the top of the hill, next to Piazza Vittorio Veneto, very central to explore the old city, but also ideally located to park your car in a free parking spot. And Andrea is a great, friendly and helpful host. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the appartmen is very quite and cozy.
Extremely comfortable bed, much softer than others we've encountered in Italy. Nice hot shower with good pressure and large bathroom. Owner was extremely nice. Facilities for making coffee in the morning. Location was excellent and easy walk to the main sights and fabulous restaurants. Matera is a must visit place and we were very comfortable at Gigi's place. Free street parking in front of the BnB was also easy (in November).
The hotel is situated just in the heart of the historical aera and has one of the best views. The owners are lovely and very friendly people. Rooms are built and decorated with “Gusto Italiano” and each room is different but very nice. They offer you a tipical breakfast of the area where all jams are home made along with famous Matera bread..
Everything was excellent. We have stayed at many apartments in italy and this one is up with the best of the best. The location is perfect, the family owners so friendly and super helpful, even washing our car and breakfast is very generous. We highly recommend this property when you are next in Matera
Location is walking distance to everything in center of Massi-old town Matera, easy to find, very helpful setting up parking (for a reasonable fee), wonderful breakfast included, helpful maps and directions and dinner recommendations, cute large round bed in the old cave cistern for our room
It was fantastic. Very good service and the owner spoke English. Perfect location between ancient and old city. Very , very nice room. The breakfast was in a nearby cafeteria. I can warmly recommend this and it is a must to go to Matera then you are traveling around in south of Italy
Our cave room was spacious and well furnished and the most unusual room we have stayed in.The staff were friendly and helpful. Someone met us at the top of the stairs by the Duomo and escorted us to the hotel. When leaving again our cases were carried up to the Duomo for us.
Perfect location and fabulous room. The owners were very helpful and when we couldn’t fine dining he hotel they send someone to help us. The breakfasts were amazing and Matera was a dream! We spent three wonderful nights here and highly recommend staying here!

I’Incanto is in a great location with excellent views over Matera from the roof top terrace & has been recently refurbished to a high standard. Onofrio has great service and even meet us at the car park area then walked us to the hotel
Beautiful hotel, lovely staff, definitely worth it!!! Very large room compare to other hotel in Italy. Clean and cozy!! Suitable for traveller who has a car because the location was a bit out of town(10 mins drive to city center).
Modern hotel set within historic buildings. Room had exposed cave walls. Beautiful views across matera from the terrace. Great breakfast. Great location
Hotel is in the ancient center. As a bonus a free tickets were given on the excursion about life in the old Matera. Town is a must see for sure!
Incredible design apartment, featuring a hammam, design furniture and one of the best views of Matera (from a private balcony). Pure luxury!
Excellent stay in the heart of Matera - unique design with bedroom completely inside a cave. We couldn’t have asked for more - very pleased.
A fairly new property, but not in a cave. Room was large but view disappointing. Hotel has its own car park which is a bonus in Matera.
Ideal location, clean, uniquely designed, friendly and (most importantly for Italy) English speaking staff.
The staff were incredibly friendly. The rooms were beautiful. And the breakfast was incredible. A unique and worthwhile stay.
