Overall a nice hotel, get explanation for operating a.c. as you check in. Clean, safe. Many choices at well serviced breakfast. We loved the pool. Take an evening stroll on same road as hotel to eat best cannolli in Sicily. Wished we had more time for exploring old town & waterfront.
We liked the fact that Mazara is a working town (a big fishing industry and with Marsala, at the heart of Sicily's wine, olive, tomato and other agriculture industry. The local government have spent a lot of time and money making Mazara tourist friendly. The seafront promenade is great and it's easy to get lost in the maze of the old town streets. There's plenty to explore, including fabulously decorated churches, attractive ceramic tiling on many of the streets and a very good selection of restaurants. The seafront at Mazara didn't look too attractive for beach bathing (although we did see some doing this) and the best beaches are about 3km west along the lagomare morgana
Mazara del Vallo has a lovely atmosphere. It's bustling with people, the historical centre is very pleasing and the squares are attractive. There are a couple of small museums - like the one housing the Satiro Danzante and the ex-Jesuit college - which make for an enjoyable short visit. The narrow streets of the old quarter and the tiles on the street walls that show traditional poems and sayings are a charming feature. The narrow, winding streets of the kasbah are fun to get lost in - until you emerge onto a sunny square where you're likely to find more than one church! Shopping is fun on the Corso and the never-ending lungomare offers plenty of space for walking and swimming. The port area and the walk along the canal are really interesting too and offer a glimpse into the fishing industry of Mazara. A pity that the molo is so dirty and neglected; it has the potential of a great walk along the banks. Altogether, Mazara del Vallo is a rather attractive and lively place to spend a couple of days in and everything can be visited on foot.
The KASBAH area is fascinating and the dancing Satyr is amazing with an even more amazing story! This is a local town, easy to get around but also has a good beach area - with sand and cafes nearby. We rode bikes out to this area, but a car would be good to also visit Trapini, Erice and Masala. The local wine was good and a visit to wineries would be also a great thing to do.
The old part of Mazara is beautiful. The small, winding streets are paved with marble, and the town is quiet (we were there in early June) and clean. The town seems to be visited by fewer tourists than other more well known places in Sicily. Mazara is home to the stunning Satyr that Came from the Sea (also known as the Dancing Satyr). It was dredged from the seabed by fishermen and is now housed in its own small museum. Mazara is small and easy to walk around.
We went to Mazara to see why my family was kicked out. The reasons for that ancient emigration still remain unknown. The city itself is probably one of the poorer medium-sized towns in Sicily, and we suspected that they hadn't seen as much EU money as other parts of the island, or rather they were just starting to see those funds. The town seemed to be under construction/renovation. You could see most of it in a few hours. I will note this: the people love their town and it shows. Mazara seemed to me like a town that is trying really hard. We felt welcome and safe. Also, the food was phenomenal. And they're doing interesting things with ceramics. So there's that.

It was perfectly clean. The house is located in a nice and quite residential area south of Mazara del Vallo, only ca. 100 - 200 m away from the sea.
