Vibrancy, Vespas, Vesuvius
Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and cable cars. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of tunnels you can visit and even a Graeco-Roman theater which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artifacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.

We only spent one night there between our day trip to Pompeii from Amalfi and our flight out of Naples the next day. It was a very different vibe from Amalfi and I do not know if I will use it outside of flying again. Was much dirtier in comparison, definitely very city-with-litter and loud noise all throughout the night. (mostly yelling and scooters). Easy to get around: walk, hop on hop off buses, taxis, train...
Easy to get around: walk, hop on hop off buses, taxis, train station and port with ferries and boats to go to other cities and tour. Good seafood. I enjoyed the mussels, clams, octopus and crumbed squid. Pizza originated from Naples but not to my liking - too thin. Pasta is good. Must try the pastries and limoncello products. Beautiful churches, castles, ports and monuments. Visit the museums especially the National archeology museum. The Church of New Jesus is spectacular (architecture, statues, carvings, paintings). The spanish quarters has murals and statues of Diego Maradona - a must see for soccer fans. Take a ferry to Capri and a boat ride along the coast. Visit Pompei - major tourist attraction. People must understand that Naples is not modern western cities. It’s very old and has much history behind it beautiful areas, for example historic district, Spanish quarters and much much more to see and do great shopping lots of stores and restaurants great nightlife. Teo Toledo BNB is fantastic in the heart of the Spanish quarters, and all the action, and historic District The room which we rented was very comfortable and had everything and plus that we needed Diego and staff are very friendly and very personal.
