If you ever want to feel the atmosphere of REAL SUN! warm and at the same time tender go to Calabria in June ... Reggio is the capital of this warm country and there are a lot of things to see all over the sity - museums, parks, castles ... Embankment is wonderful place for breathing fresh air and walking peacefully in a good company or even on your own ... you can find there everything you need in the evening ... Food is cheep and delicious the only thing you should know that swimming on the local beach is a thing of challenge! the MESSINA STRAIT is too cool!!! for having a relaxing bath))))))
An intersting and enjoyable part of Italy with warm friendly people. A great base for exploring Calabria with its rich history , picturesque towns and stunning panoramas..........much more than a ferry port!
Calabria is beautiful with it's amazing beaches. You do need water shoes. The boardwalk is gorgeous. If you really want a treat go to the Museum where they have "The Bronze Statues" which were found in the 19 70's by scuba divers. They are amazing. If you get to visit a very ancient town called Gerace, it's worth the trip. I went with the museum and actually met the artist who has a great deal of his work around the boardwalk area and his own area where he teaches students his mosaic design. There is a lot of Greek influence all over Calabria. It's wonderful.
Food is very authentic and reasonably priced. Central Train station is nice but trains are often delayed (as with moat of Italy). Little public transportation, but the city is walkable. Not many big tourist sights to see and little for tourist gifts.
The Archeologico Museo is of course the highlight of Reggio. Also worthwhile is the promenade Lungomare Falcomatà with the views across to Sicily and beautiful magnolia (some with amazingly thick trunks) and palm trees and excellent people watching. The Aragonese Castle (free admission) is worthwhile for the view. The food is very good in this city.
Walking the promenade daily was a real treat.. once in the morning and again in the evening. Shopping and walking on the main streets was excellent, especially on the weekends. Some interesting sites, archaeological museum, basilica, etc. Lots of quality places to eat, from simple to fancy. A very pleasant atmosphere, city life and ocean views.

I felt welcomed from the moment I got there. Sabrina was a great hostess. She gave me information on where to eat and suggestions on where to go. I had the traditional Italian breakfast and it was delicious! There were two croissants with various fillings and toppings to choose from, yogurt, biscotti with jam, juice, water and coffee, tea or cappuccino. It was just a few minutes walk from the National Archaeology Museum which was the reason I was visiting Reggio di Calabria and the Lungomare was a short walk as well.

Fabulous apartment! Ultra modern, clean, centrally located with fantastic facilities and a postcard view. Reggio suite was by far the most luxurious accommodation we stayed at in Italy yet the best value. We wished we could stay longer. The host Michelangelo and his son went above and beyond expectation, even guiding us to the airport and helping with our bags. Bar Matteotti (directly below on the corner) is great for a quick breakfast.

I liked everything, starting with the host Francesco who texted me right after my booking to see if I needed anything. He was waiting for us at the apartment and explained everything about the neighborhood and suggested a typical Calabrian restaurant. We enjoyed walking in the piazza not far away from the apartment. The breakfast was excellent and the two ladies were extremely nice and cordial. Best choice in Reggio di Calabria💖

Our host Cinzia was very accommodating. Her restaurant recommendation led us to one of our best meals in Italy! The decor was tastefully done with a designer’s eye. The breakfast was excellent although it did cost extra. The terrace where we ate had fantastic views. A perfect location for 2 couples or a family of 4 traveling together.
