The Vatican City and St Peter’s Basilica were extremely busy .. but manageable but the Sistine Chapel was horrendous and anyone who hates crowds or has claustrophobia should avoid .
Many of the sights were covered up in preparation for the Jubilee next year which was disappointing
Not an easy city as too big to walk everywhere .
Highlight was the cookery school .

So much to see and appreciate how major cities across have been influenced by Roman architecture. Better done on foot if you're able, although with ancient streets you have to watch your footing for uneven pavements and dog poo.
Many landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain and St Castelo Bridge are shrouded in renovation hoardings as Rome prepares for the Jubilee 2025, so next year will be ideal to see them in their full renovated glory.
Eating is no problem, pasta and pizza galore, but don't forget to try a lesser known snack called suppli.

It's ROME - Being a Catholic, it is a complete joy to see the numerous chiesas and basilicas.
But, beyond the exquisite art and architecture, it is the Eternal City. If you know history or just appreciate beauty, go to Rome.
However, if you do not like urban areas - rethink Rome. It is a big city and you walk everywhere and you are walking near or with or in crowds much of the time. Italy is packed with beautiful small towns if that is you style.

The last time I had been in Rome was November 2008.
The last time I had been in Rome was November 2008. It was practically deserted back then. Granted there was a recession at the time. Fast forward to November 2024 and I found the city so crowded. I suppose tourism has changed. Rome is still magnificent and the palazzo colonna stood out this time. Also Trastevere. It’s my favourite city.

Wonderful city and loved the history and buildings.
Wonderful city and loved the history and buildings. Local people were very friendly and helpful. Weather was sunny and warm during our visit in early November, which made the whole experience all the more enjoyable. Plenty of restaurants and bars around. Loved coliseum and Vatican and all the monuments we saw. Taxis expensive but we mostly walked.

The building although found in the old city of Rome, was modern and aesthetically pleasing. The room was spacious and clean and we were also offered water which we could refill from the hotel itself - who doesn’t love a sustainable act? The best part was the breakfast - so delicious and mouthwatering, I’ve never tasted such good breakfast at a hotel in Italy! The food was so genuine and fresh - pure delicacies of Rome! Finally, Erica the receptionist was so sweet and welcoming on our arrival and departure.
I like this hotel because of its convenient location. It is so close to Termini station, so if you travel across Italy, this variant will be the best. The room was small but clean, good air conditioning, it was important for us because the temperature was +37+38 in August in Rome.
The staff was friendly, they explained everything that we wanted to know. I think the breakfast was good, it was an ordinary European breakfast (coffee, juice, bread, cheese, jam, croissants).
We had to book this room at the last minute because a train strike in Italy forced a change in our plans. The best part was the helpful host, Sergio, who deserves a better place to work. The room was uncomfortable, hot (the air conditioning didn't work) and smelled of bleach. The hotel is in a grubby area of Rome, near the train station, that felt unsafe at night. We left as soon as we could the next morning.
The hotel was in close proximity to Trastevere and the bus to the Rome Termini. The room was large compared to the hotels we have stayed in when in Italy. The rooftop breakfast area provided a great view toward the centre of Rome. Definitely a recommendation.
Horti 14 was the reason why I enjoyed Rome so much. The people, the service, our hotel room.. absolutely everything was perfect. Coming back to the hotel from the busy centre felt like you were in a different part of Italy. Thank you for the great stay🙌
