With over two and a half thousand years of history and astonishing classical beauty, Rome truly deserves to be called the Eternal City. From the breath-taking Colosseum to the famous Trevi Fountain, Rome has something for every taste.
Enjoy a freshly brewed espresso on one of the Rome’s popular piazzas and admire the everlasting beauty of frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. Caravaggio’s paintings in Santa Maria del Popolo are a definite must-see.
Rome is also home to the Pantheon, built in 125 AD, the stunning St. Peter’s Basilica as well as another classic, the Roman Forum. Many of the world’s most famous churches, museums and galleries are just around the corner allowing you to have it all.
Make sure you explore the popular Trastevere and its cafes and trattorias, sit down on the Spanish Steps or just relax and enjoy Rome’s picturesque and sunny atmosphere. Rome will surely convince you that it is one of Italy’s gems.

We stayed 4 days early in September and two more by the end of the month. Rome has enough to see and interest anyone for that length of time and more. That is a nightmare in disguise, as such interest makes visiting the sites difficult with the thousands and thousands of tourists competing for a glimpse of something or a table at a cafe, bar or restaurant. No need for me to list attractions as they are available in any tourist website.
We visited Rome is September expecting less crowds as it’s shoulder season. Unfortunately, this was not our experience. We found it extremely busy and quite expensive - it was difficult to enjoy the key attractions due to the high number of visitors, and in most places it felt like we were being ‘herded’ through. We were lucky to book tickets/tours when we did, and I would highly recommend booking much farther in advance to ensure you have access to the experience you want on the dates you prefer - high chance of missing out otherwise. Despite this, it’s a place not to be missed! Be prepared for crowds, plan ahead and expect to pay premium prices. Wear comfortable shoes!
Rome has always been the dream destination for me, since I studied art my whole life, and wanted to see all the things I had only seen in textbooks and the internet. To say that my expectations were exceeded would be an understatement. In a couple of days I saw the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Vatican Museums, Colosseum, Borghese Gallery and the surrounding parks. I'd recommend visiting the Trastevere region, where we had lunch and dined, not only because of the atmosphere, but also because the restaurants there were simply great. We did not have the time to figure out the public transport system in Rome, so we mostly walked as much as possible, and took taxi whenever we were pressed by time, or late at night - note, that taxi services in Rome are extremely expensive for even short rides. I recommend reading some traveler tips on the internet before visiting Rome, and Italy in general, to avoid tourist traps (restaurants, cafes, shops, etc.)
Rome is a very nice city with lots of things to explore,if you have enough time for your plans. For us unfortunately it wasn't enough, because we wanted to visit other great cities of Italy. Since we were travelling with a wheelchair and Rome is very much uphill/ downhill- it wasn't easy for long travels just walking. In Rome we absolutely enjoyed : 1)Colosseum 2)Pantheon 3)Trevi Fountains and some of the wonderful cathedrals and churches. Please beware of some scam taxi drivers - especially if you are in line at Roma Termini. This was one of the unpleasant things that happened to us in Rome. For a 5 minute taxi drive to our hotel we paid 50 Euros to an idiot who just fooled us. Always take a taxi with a meter and maybe ask how much in advance. A taxi to an airport from Roma Termini is a 40 minute drive and it cost 50 Euros (it is written so on taxi's doors). I would not let this ruin my vacation, but I really wanted to report this scam artist to carabineri. He got lucky we didn't have much time for that, but I just want to warn other people to be careful with that. Other than that you will really enjoy Rome and everything it has to offer.
Rome is a beautiful city of fountains and statues and history. It is crowded with tourists and has not recovered fully from the Covid Pandemic just like other countries in Europe. Food in the grocery stores looked less expensive than in the USA which surprises me. Hotel prices are just as or more expensive than staying in large cities like New York and Miami. Restaurant prices were pretty good, better than when I traveled to Europe before the Pandemic. We spent an average of 50 Euros a night on dinners with wine. Taxis are cheaper than Uber in Rome because their fares are regulated by distance and Uber works on availability. A 45 minute drive from our hotel, regardless of the time of day was 50 Euros, Uber quoted me 86 euros. Always discuss the price of fixed distances, like going to the airport before leaving in a taxi. Our hotel front desk told us how much the taxi would cost.
Too crowded. Very dirty (streets full off trash, urin, homeless,...) No any green places (no tree, no grass, no cats, no dogs,...) close to touristical places. People are always shouting. Too many pickpocket. Metro closes 21:00. Busses are always late. Indian, pakistani, persian, chinese to serve tourists. Italians are not interested in toutists & tourism. Vatican must limit the number of visitor per hour (as done in coliseum) cause its too too too crowded even to walk inside. Everywhere there are lots of fountains & squers but all are the same. Italia didn't hang a bolt to develop Rome to live & visit. You must stay @ a central place that you can walk touristical places everyhour. Staying close to Termini is not an advantage
