Rome felt a little like Father Ted meets Faulty Towers.
Rome felt a little like Father Ted meets Faulty Towers. It's chaotic, crowded, and overwhelming. We unfortunately travelled before a Jubilee year (don't go in 2025 - it's going to be rammed) which the locals told us extended peak season so it felt like navigating Oxford Street, London, in December. The kids and I were forming human chains trying to navigate the crowd.
Also, whatever you do, don't purchase the Rome Tourist Card from Tiqets. That audacious company charged our group 3x more than if we had booked direct with each attraction. 3x more!!! Most attractions now offer timed entry so if you book online, the queues are not ridiculous (only exception was St Peter's Basilica where the line through security took 40 minutes but not even tours could avoid it) so don't be fooled by anything promising 'skip-the-line'. Plan ahead and book direct.
When we went late October, beginning of November, a lot of the fountains, obelisks and statues were covered in scaffolding for remedial works so some of the places we'd read or heard about, we weren't able to see.
Be wary of the Metro tickets. You can use Contactless or Card to tap on direct at the turnstiles or buy a ticket from the machines. Unless you're doing a lot of hopping on and off the Metro, the 24/48 passes aren't worth it.

It's surprisingly busy, even in mid-season.
It's surprisingly busy, even in mid-season. Take care of reservations for sites and restaurants before your stay. We stayed 5 days and didn't mind the length. If you're in a hurry, plan for at least 2 days. Otherwise, you'll be glad to have planned 3 - 4.

We stayed for 4 days.
We stayed for 4 days. You could stay even more, but for us it was sufficient to see all the attractions in the Rome historical center. There will be jubilee in 2025 in Rome. Most of the sightsing places eg Trevi and other fontains, statutes, facades are under reconstruction in 2024. Accessible but not fully visible from the outside.

Rome is a gorgeous city, at every step you had something to do and see! I did between 11-17,000 steps/day, but it was totally worth it. On the other hand, I had the misfortune that many tourist attractions were under renovation. many, too many.. The locals were so warm!
unfortunately, in the very first minutes of getting on the subway, my friend's purse was stolen, but I had seen something suspicious in the attitude of those specimens, I loudly told her to take care of her bag, and after a few minutes of arguing, they threw the purse at her feet . it's shocking! we were lucky. I hope everyone else has our luck. stay alert!

I like this hotel because of its convenient location. It is so close to Termini station, so if you travel across Italy, this variant will be the best. The room was small but clean, good air conditioning, it was important for us because the temperature was +37+38 in August in Rome.
The staff was friendly, they explained everything that we wanted to know. I think the breakfast was good, it was an ordinary European breakfast (coffee, juice, bread, cheese, jam, croissants).
Great location, few minutes walk from Rome Termini train station.
2 stop from Colosseum,or walk about 15-20 minutes.
Don't forget to try "Gelateria S.M.Maggior" the best gelato ever!
Also had best Chinese food in "Ristorante Cinese Wang xiang lou" ( better than UK )
Just by hotel left hand corner, tasty and very reasonable price.
For Italy food we went Santa Maria Osteria - Ristorante Pizzeria,it was good.
Overall we enjoyed out stay.
the very helpful staff make me rate this hotel the best one I’ve stay in Italy. we arrived early at 8am , the staff allow me to drop the luggage and give me advise the good restaurants list and they even help to lift the luggage. I feel safe and heart warming they are just like your neighbours, the room is clean and well decorated. hot shower, heater all function well. I’ll definitely come if I would visit Rome again .
This is an absolutely fantastic boutique hotel in Monti. It is located very conveniently in Rome and the rooms are gorgeous and a decent size for Italy. Above all however, the staff are absolutely amazing. They all went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. It felt like they were welcoming us into their home, rather than a hotel. We can’t wait to come back!
Excellent boutique like hotel with nice breakfast and great staff . The location was great , just in front of a bus station, a corner shop and one of the best gelato place. Very safe neighborhood as we were 2 ladies travelling. Would definitely come back to Deseo if in Rome again.
