San Cesario di Lecce
An old Patrician villa located in San Cesario di Lecce, B&B Lu Casale is immersed in the Salento countryside. Nice hotel or b&b, that’s how we would call this place. It’s really beautiful, huge and comfortable, but everything feels more like a hotel or b&b. It didn’t give us the real ‘agriturismo experience’. Dinner was lovely, around the pool, breakfast was good (for the lazy days maybe a bit early), the pool it self is also huge and big. Close to Lecce!

San Cesario di Lecce is probably not the first port of call that the traveller to Puglia might call to mind, but as is so often found along the Road Less Travelled it reveals itself as a little gem. As a working town and off the tourist route, the old centre of San Cesario di Lecce remains mostly ungentrified and the older buildings are all architectural treasures. The visitor should look out for the antique wrought-iron streetlights adorning the walls of the older parts of the town. The people we met were friendly with lots of “buongiornos’ offered as we strolled about. There is a Penny’s supermarket about seven minutes’ walk away well stocked and full of nice things at good prices, some of the staff do speak English and were very helpful. The other reason that we chose San Cesario di Lecce is its transport links, the town is well connected by bus, road and rail services with Lecce and the rest of Salento and Puglia. In fact, nowhere in Salento is more than 30 minutes away by car from San Cesario. On our first day we drove into Lecce the journey took about eight minutes and parking was simplicity itself using our iPhone parking App. We would heartily recommend this B&B, in fact this is more than just a bed and breakfast, it is a welcoming home from home where an English family may feel comfortable and well catered for.
A lovely peaceful place with a gorgeous town square where we spent a few hours watching the world go by, enjoying the culture. Comprehensive range of shops, including chemists and bank (Banca Monte Dei Paschi Di Siena, 48 Via Dante). Several supermarkets, including an indoor one (Mercato Coperto, 9 Piazza XX Settembre) having stalls selling fish, meat, dairy produce, fruit and vegetables, bread and general provisions - an experience of the 'real Italy'. We recommend Forno Rollo, a bakery (1 Via Ferrovia) just off the town square; lovely staff and great products. Several restaurants and cafes. We recommend Man vs Burger on the town square for delicious food at very reasonable prices and great staff. Also Small Cucina And More restaurant (59 Via Dante Alighieri) for a different experience; we found it to be more upmarket with good food and service. Train station with good connections and prices very reasonable. We went to Lecce, (five miles, seven minutes) which cost €4.40 and Gallipoli (24 miles, 80 minutes) for €14, each for two adult return tickets. In our view, a little piece of paradise.
