Hotel La Collegiata

San Gimignano

Originally a Franciscan convent built in 1587, Hotel La Collegiata is located in the Colli Seneri area, within east reach of mediaeval towns such as San Gimignano and Volterra. Great breakfast with local absolutely delicious ingredients. Hard boiled eggs were good; it was easy to take the eggshell - the detail that is more important than one could even imagine! Also egg cups with small spoons were equally nice. Absolutely fantastic the view towards San Gimignano. The staff was professional. The director lef t a good impact on me: I did like his straight way of speaking - it's good to hear honest opinions. Every detail in the hotel was well-thought, the garden is wonderful. Mi e' piaciuto!

FAQs about hotels in San Gimignano

A Tempting Tuscan Sun

San Gimignano, with the Italian sun glistening intently on its 14 remaining towers, cuts a dramatic figure from its position high on a Tuscan hill overlooking vineyards. However, it is when you get up-close-and-personal with this medieval-walled city and crane your neck to the blue sky that you truly appreciate its mesmerising beauty.

If you take away the swarming summer tourists circling the piazzas of San Gimignano, then this city offers you a wonderful trip back in time. The main square, Piazza della Cisterna, is surrounded by Romanesque buildings and Piazza del Duomo features Torre Grossa, the city’s tallest tower.

San Gimignano, originally an Entruscan village, was part of the ancient pilgrim route Via Francigena joining France to Rome. Its name was derived from the Bishop of Modena and is well known today as the Town of Fine Towers.

The 12th-century Collegiate Church of San Gimignano is a worth a visit with its wonderful collection of frescoes, and it also includes the Religious Art Museum.

Whether it is sitting on a restaurant terrace sipping some local Vernaccia wine or attending the lively Thursday Market, Booking.com has a range of San Gimignano hotels, guest houses and apartments for your stay. And just out of the city are options such as farm stays and country houses in the Tuscan countryside.
