Scanno is a fairly typical hill-top Abruzzo town. It's not quite as charming as some of the other small towns within the boundaries of the Nation Park, but it's still an attractive place - particularly the Old Town (Centro Storico). There are several restaurants/trattorie in or near the town serving traditional Abruzzese dishes at reasonable prices. The nearby lake (3km) is a tranquil beauty spot and well worth a visit. Scanno is a good base for anyone interested in walking/trekking - there are some fine paths in around the town and above the lake. My only criticism would be that, too often, the paths are poorly signposted. All things considered, a great place to spend a few days relaxing in.
My family is from Scanno so I went to meet with them and visit the town. There were so many cute shops and the restaurant where we ate was phenomenal. The lake is very beautiful as well and I would love to come back in the summer.
Scanno is the perfect getaway for all interests. Casual strolls or mountain hiking - whatever you prefer. Lots of outdoor cafes and family run restaurants to choose from. Not a bad meal anywhere! Gorgeous scenery. Awesome!
Scanno is the most beautiful town. Lots of hotels and B and B’s to choose from. Bustling summer activity but also great escape from the city. Nice quiet town but great restaurant choices too. Love it!!! And the mountain lake is breathtaking. Gotta see it to believe it.
I was there on a kayaking trip with a guide who lives in the area. It was truly incredible. The scenery is magnificent. We stayed at Bioagriturnismo Vallescannese and would recommend this agriturismo to anyone. However, you would need a car as it is not accessible by public transportation. We ate at the agristurismo and at a restaurant. The food is really fantastic.
Unique town in a beautiful location. The town is unspoilt. We loved it but it did mean that it isn't fully geared up for tourists. The walk to the lake was lovely but be prepared for a steep climb back up to the town. Scanno is 1050m above sea level!
Situated next to Lago di Scanno and about a 10 minute drive from Scanno or Villalago, La Maga is a perfect spot for people who love walking. Our dog loved the albergo too as the place is very dog-friendly. The breakfast was great and plentiful. Carlotta, the host, was very gracious and attentive.
The location was fabulous, offering a photogenic view over Scanno while still being just a ten minute walk from the historic centre. The owner, Mario, was very helpful and proud of his town. Lifts are a relative rarity in Italian hotels, but Nilde has a large and very modern one - ideal for a pram!
Very nice hotel in Scanno. The staff makes you feel at home. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The hotel was beautifully decorated. Breakfast has good local options. There is plenty of parking on the streets nearby.
- lovely old fashioned hotel in a great location, right next to funicular, and minutes walk from town centre - nice and charming owners / managers - good breakfast, even with gluten free options
Lovely BnB in a palazzo with at the door access to Scanno’s compact but beautiful medieval old town. Excellent breakfast and delightful host.
