Still a good hotel, but level decreasing.

Still a good hotel, but level decreasing. Before this hotel (and the management) was a little gem, now it is becoming just another group owned hotel with a non personal hospitality. I have been angry a couple of times because of little details, like plastic beakers at the breakfast buffet, and generally speaking I have better been received in the past years. Level of the hotel is definitely declining.

    Such a lovely resort.

Such a lovely resort. Also great ski area, the ski pass for 6 days (including france) covers a vast area. And lots of great runs. Mainly reds and black runs but that was perfect for us. Also cheaper compared to other European ski resorts and lots of fun. The locals are very welcoming and friendly. 10/10 would definitely go back! Après was really fun too, a lot better than the French après! Despite what the internet says about no après in Sestriere, igloo was fun and Gargote fashion cafe was wicked!

Great location. Only 1hour 30m by taxi .

Great location. Only 1hour 30m by taxi . Taxi is very expensive ( over 500 euro return from Turin airport. ) Good restaurants are expensive 50-60 euro for a nice meal per person. The people running the ski rental shop by the resort is NOT recommended. Very bad attitude , not helpful and old haggard equipment. ( I should have walked strait back out as the attitude stunk strait away) The ski boots were wet and we were not offered dry ones although we asked and they are not equipped to leave your ski gear there after a day of skiing so you have to walk 100 meters to the resort ski lockers. On of the ski poles snapped in half and they wanted to charge for it although the poles were very old. I should have gone to a better shop.

We stayed in Borgata, a very quiet village just 200 metres...

We stayed in Borgata, a very quiet village just 200 metres below Sestriere, we only went into Sestriere whilst skiing and accessed the town from ski lift, but the hotel will happily arrange a taxi shuttle if you wish to go into sestriere to eat, Two restuarants were open in Borgata during our stay, both excellent, one fine dining Italian style, and the other La Teit is a pizzeria, but lots of other options of food, the beef steak and roasted vegetables was delicious and the mixed platter appetizer was very tasty

Great ski area but don't expect a great choice of evening...

Great ski area but don't expect a great choice of evening restaurants. Sestriere seemed more icy than Sansicario (sunny) and Sauze d'Oulx (tree-lined). That said, if you're a decent skier the Kandahar Banchetta 2006 Olympic downhill run above Borgata is a MUST and usually open to the public. If uncrowded, there's no obstruction to doing a full top-to-bottom descent at speed if you're careful to avoid skiers below. Il Centro and Baby Bar had a relaxed, very friendly atmosphere and a good choice and quality of food, including veggie. Service in Truber was a little strange and it's not quite as good as it thinks it is... but food was OK. For apres-ski the Baraldo above the slopes on the roundabout got far more sun in January than slopeside and dished out home-made snacks for free with drinks orders.

The town is a bit difficult to navigate on foot due to hills and limited public transport. also, thre is heavy trafic during high season. The slopes, on the other hand, are great - sunny, lots of snow and few people. I wish there were more afordable prices for kids on the snow lifts.
