Shrouded in Sophistication
Italy’s first capital, sophisticated Turin has many elegant buildings and porticoed streets. Large Piazza Castello is the focal point and centres on Palazzo Madama, an unusual structure with a Renaissance façade and medieval body.
The next door Royal Palace backs onto Turin Cathedral, home to the Turin Shroud, the cloth with an imprint of Christ only rarely on display. Its museum is just one of the many fantastic Turin museums. None is better than the Egyptian Museum, the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts outside Cairo. Also noteworthy is the Mole Antonelliana, housing displays on Italian cinema and supposedly the world’s tallest museum.
By the Po, Italy’s longest river, is the Parco del Valentino, a tranquil park that is home to the Borgo Medievale, an artificial, medieval-style settlement with a castle.
However, within Italy, Turin is best known for sport and cars. FIAT is based here and nostalgia lovers can visit the rooftop track on top of their old Lingotto factory, now a conference center. The city’s 2 Serie A football clubs - Torino and Juventus - also have electric atmospheres at their games.
Watch out for amazing views of the Alps as you fly into Turin Airport. Public transport then quickly links you to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or hostel.

The historic center is very walkable. Most of the sights and museums are right in the center. But also just walking the small side streets and enjoying the atmosphere, enjoying amazing food and coffee was one of my favorite things to do. Saturday market at porta palazzo is truly a must-experience. In the side streets in the city center watch out for small concept stores and cafes/bars; there are some real juwels to discover. It is an historic city with beautiful piazzas almost around every corner. The stunning Alps serve as the backdrop for Turin and the River Po provides serenity and peace away from the bustle of the main shopping areas. An incredible variety of museums and galleries to visit - including the rightly praised Museum of Egypt which we spent hours in. We mainly walked around the city but caught the tram a few times and found that very easy to navigate. Gorgeous architectural gems - including the train station which has to be one of the best art nouveau stations you will ever see. We also went to the Cesare Lambroso Museum of Criminal Anthropology - it's definitely not everyone but is a fascinating insight into the 'cod' psychology that was so prevalent in the Victorian era.Guest review byKirstyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

There is so much to see and do in Turin whatever your tastes. The city is well served by the city governing bodies and there is a comfortable relationship with tourists.
