The Torre del Lago Puccini is a small quiet town near more famous place called Viareggio. We have visited some beaches here, they are ok, but the sea is not so clean - in the September. But the beaches were with sand, perfect for small kids.
Enjoyed visit to Puccini’s home by the lake now a museum where the family are buried. We had drinks & a picnic by the beautiful lake watching the sun go down. Then attended the Puccini open air concert with wonderful scenery and amazing singing without microphones. Everyone dresses for the occasion and the show was wonderful. Travelling was easy going by bus, and afterwards we had a lovely walk back about 1am (40min) passing the queue of traffic & feeling very safe. There were also boat trips available round the lake but we did not try them. Having read some poor reviews beforehand in our case there were no issues with anything. The show ran on time, 3 intervals with drinks, ice creams & toilets easily available. Perfect weather but would recommend mosquito spray and a shawl just in case.
Cute little city surrounded by ocean lake beach and mountain.....ideal for being lazy and relaxing...with kids mainly on the beach....and for opera lovers the Puccini festival is a must ...takingv place in a nice open air theatre directly at the lago puccini...though getting away with public transport is impossible....just expensive bus rip offs..as well as taxis for 30euroes to drive 2km......but a kind amazing owner of the restaurant next to it gave us a ride back....for our next stay we would organize some bikes as everyone uses one....the older ones we have ever seen...but ideal to get around...
Small town with few shops but a couple if excellent restaurants, a beautiful lake (with boat trips) and, of course, the annual Puccini Opera Festival which was excellent. The railway station links the town to Pisa, Lucia and beyond as well as Viareggio and La Spezia.
Love that we had the option of a FREE BEACH (Viareggio Free Beach) ... away from the organised chaos of people at the payed area. We got to put our towels right by the water and build sand castles with our son without worrying about our stuff. It was a beautiful place!
Torre del Lago Puccini
The location of the Camping is very good. One is very quickly at the beach with bikes. And you can rent bikes from the Camping itself. We loved our Mini-Bungalow, and had almost everything we needed there... you can rent towels and theres a Mini market on the grounds, you get pans and stuff, to prepare meals in the bungalow kitchen... it was really nice. With bikes you can go to the near village or shop in Torre del Lago Puccini itself, and with a car you are close to some lovely cities as Lucca or Pisa.
I stayed here as an airport hotel (its only 25 mins from Pisa Airport) and it really is an excellent hotel, the owners / staff were extremely friendly and the place feels like a family run business rather than a generic chain. Which is so much nicer than being stuck in the middle of an industrial estate near an airport. The parking is super easy and the hotel has a lovely garden. The location is right on the beach with plenty of restaurants near by - I hope to stay again.
Torre del Lago Puccini
As for most camping villages, they offer a lot: private chalets/bungalos, pool, restaurant, bike rentals, kids play area, etc. We booked rather last-minute, and it was still ready upon arrival. The restaurant was always yummy and pretty quick (although some of the staff seemed pretty new). We loved the little walkable/bikeable trails to the beach, the local towns, etc. through the jungle.
the location was excellent to walk to the teatro. the staff was extremely helpful upon arrival, departure and for breakfast. simple boutique, somewhat Bohemian, hotel in a beautiful setting along the sea and the mountains in the distance.
Torre del Lago Puccini
Great location - close to railway station and city center, next to a supermarket Kind and friendly staffs I could rent a bicycle for free - this helped me a lot to get to beaches and a theater
Torre del Lago Puccini
Big garden, close to the beach, rural area, nice host. Pool is obviously a plus - just notice: In may it was still closed
Very nice hotel for the rest
