And the food was terrific, with of course pasta but many unique Venetian dishes as well. Side trip to Murano to see glass made was also special. Great city for solo travellers, I always felt safe thought of course usual rules apply re watching bags etc. on public transport and in busy places. Best times to enjoy Venice are early morning or evenings as its so busy during the day. This was our 3rd time in Venice (most likely our last). We have a cruise leaving from Ravenna. It was extremely crowded, everything got more expensive and there are service charges in almost all restaurants. For example; my husband and I had a pizza that cost 10 euros (good price) BUT there was a 3.00 service chage per person and we were charged 4.00 euros for a bottle of water. I asked about the service charges and the waiter said it's for the linens, dishes and utensils. The pizza was not good.
