Petra is definitely a wonder to behold not just the ancient landmarks but also the trails. If you're into archeology and ancient stuffs, one day is not enough. Go for the night event too. At first we booked for the night event but we were too tired from a whole day's exploration so we decided to skip.
The site was absolutely spectacular. However a little long walk for a senior to get the the site. Transport to the site a little expensive. I object to all the sellers at a great World Heritage site; takes away from the respect that everyone should have for such an ancient and special site
I was unable to stay overnight like I had originally planned so I just did a 2 hour jeep tour. It wasn't near long enough but it was during the sunset, which was amazing and I highly recommend experiencing. Took some of the best photos ever. I'll be back to stay longer soon.
Petra was the the objective of our visit, and it is definitely worth it. We are not the total archeological funs, so 1 day for us was sufficient. Yet, I would definitely visit again, if I ever come back.
Had a brilliant time in Petra - did Little Petra on the first afternoon (after we arrived) which was great for the kids - not too much to take in and they could climb in the rocks and get involved. We also then did Petra by Night, which was great to see, but too late for my kids as it was 8-10pm after a long day of walking and exploring. Next day we caught a taxi to Little Petra (there is a free shuttle, but they said they had to wait till the bus was full, and we had a time limit to the day), took the shuttle to the back entrance of Petra (5 JD per person (not needed for kids)) and then walked from the drop off point to the Monastery - beautiful views and very quiet - took about 45 mins with the kids at a fairly good pace. We then walked from The Monastery through all the sites to the Treasury, getting Donkey's for the kids when we reached the half way point. as we had the donkey's we went quite quickly past some of the sites (didn't go up to the tombs) but the kids had seen enough by then, and were happy to trot on. We finished up and headed out of the entrance and got lunch on the street adjacent to the Visitors center - great pizza places there, before driving back to Amman for our flight that evening. We set off at about 8 and finished at 1 - could have spent longer (had lunch before getting on the donkeys and spending longer at the tombs etc) but depends on how tolerant your kids are of looking at old rocks :)
Seeing Petra in person is so emotional, even if you've seen photos and images countless times, being there is so emotional! Unfortunately there are a lot of vendors inside selling things, bothering, shouting, spoiling the landscape with goods as far as the eye can see. Another very unpleasant thing is having to pay "guides" to go up a few flights to the highest points where you can better admire the treasure. Petra ticket is not cheap to get inside and be explored a little more. We didn't even know it this is legal. Talking to a policeman there he told us that we were supposed to pay the "guides", which I refused.
Wadi Musa
The property is a top floor penthouse with 360 views of Wadi Musa, including the entrance to Petra. It is ran by two incredible people who will go to any length to ensure you have the best stay. The food is of a very high quality, bed is very comfortable and the several wifi spots are perfect wherever you are. The place is also spotlessly clean throughout. No doubt this is one of the best hostels/hotels in the whole of Jordan and we would definitely recommend staying here while visiting the area. Thanks again to Hamza and Abdullah.
Perfect hotel - located close to restaurants and shops, entrance to Petra can be reached by foot or by quick taxi drive. If you use local bus to get to/from Wadi Musa, the bus station is close as well. The rooms are nice and clean and the staff was very helpful during our whole stay. The breakfast was also tasty with wide choice of food. I would recommend this place to everyone :)
- Great location right by the main street of Wadi Musa. There were lots of restaurants, shops and cafes to choose from. - There was parking right in front of the door, which was nice. - The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The owner Saddam was a very nice man who was extremely helpful and informative - The breakfast was very good and plentiful
Superb!!! We enjoyed our stay in the Petra Moon hotel very much. it was very clean, the staff really friendly and polite, always ready to satisfy our needs. The buffet (breakfast and dinner) was splendid! The receptionist, Raja, did everything to make us feel comfortable! We are looking forward to coming back to Petra and to this hotel again!
The hotel is perfectly located, exactly between the entrance to Petra and the old city center. The room was big, clean and very convenient for the price. But it was really Mojo, the hotel owner, who gave us an awesome experience in Wadi Musa. Always happy to help, from 6AM (for early breakfast) to 11PM (to recap the day).
Complimentary drink at the check-in. Professional and polite staff. Breakfast was very good. Room was modern, clean, with touch screen controls and big tv. Price was exceptional, similar hotels in Europe cost at least 2 or 3 times more. Pool and spa are available but didn't have time to enjoy them.
