It’s a good base if you want to visit Dazaifu, Nagasaki and Kumamoto. We didn’t get to see more of Fukuoka because of the daytrips I had booked. No problem with shopping in Tenjin, Hakata, and Canal City. Even their subway has lots of shops. Restaurants are everywhere including basements of big shopping malls. Overall, it may not be as popular and as big as Tokyo and Osaka, but its a good place to visit if you prefer a leisurely vacation.
Great place for first timers and foodies to be introduced to Japan. You have both slow and fast atmospheres. Drive to about 2 hours to Oita to go see the hot springs or 8 hells as they call them. Spend night at Oita and then drive back to Fukuoka next evening. Saw monkey mountain and crocodile park while there. Take advantage of unique restaurants, but you must do your research.
Chill place with some nice options for shopping and site seeing. We enjoyed Hakata Station, Canal City, and the reclining Buddha. The train is easy to navigate and, as always, the locals were very willing to help us if we couldn’t figure it out.
Fukuoka is a beautiful city, and even more exciting prefecture! I honestly recommend trying out the "yatai" - night food stands that line the canals where you can sit close to other diners and eat good street food. If you have time you can take the canal boat that rides up and down showing you a beautiful view of the city too - I recommend this in the evening to see the city all lit up. Visiting the Tenjin and Hakata areas are great for shopping and dining, while Daimyo has some interesting bars and night life. Nakasu has a completely different night time vibe, if you're feeling a little braver and wanting to see hosts standing around outside trying to tempt people into their bars. The buses run frequently and are a cheap way to get between places in the city. To travel further afield as well, there run from Hakata bus station, which is just across from the main train terminal. If you stay for a longer time it's a great experience to explore where you can travel to areas nearby using the bus system or the local trains. Dazaifu has a beautiful traditional temple famous for students praying for good test scores - as well as a fascinating museum. There's a more traditional street as well leading up to the shrine with lovely shops and some local sweets.
Having been many times, Hakata is a great “big city” because it doesn’t really have the feel of a big city once you leave the city center, even just a kilometer or so, the feel of the city is much calmer. But because it is a big city there are always things to do.
The city is big enough to offer many different activities and yet not too huge as to make you feel lost (in translation...). Getting around is pretty easy : bus, subway, trains... All are rather cheap and you can buy a subway one day pass for 620 yens. I would recommend the Hakata area for is shrines, temples and old houses, Tenjin for shopping, but my favorite place was Ohori Park where you can take a stroll, relax, enjoy a coffee or a beer and even rent a paddle boat. The park also beholds a beautiful Japanese Garden with a tea house where you can experience the tea ceremony on the first and the third tuesdays of the month. The Japanese garden is closed on monday. The food in general is beautiful and there are many specialities to taste. Don’t miss the ramen, nor the udon (both noodles), but the Japanese BBQ is worth a try too.

Everything is good, nothing can be picked! Walking distance between hakata station and gion station. Close to canal city, some shops and convenience store nearby. Hot spring is very nice, clean and amenities inside. Bfast is good but will be better if more selection of food. Free supper raman for hotel guest, very thoughtful! Room is clean and spotless everyday! Housekeeping lady was doing a great job of cleaning. This hotel is always our first choice in Fukuoka.

I loved this little hostel. The communal area downstairs had a lovely rose smell that I really liked. Good books on the shelf and little things provided like hot water and tea with nice cups. The staff were the friendliest that I encountered in all of japan! They talked to me and asked me questions, and seemed interested in why I’d traveled to Fukuoka and taught me a bit of Japanese. Charming guest house.

Bathroom was disproportionately big for the room (for Japanese standards at least). Laundry self service in the hotel. Very central location, 10 minutes away from Hakata station (main Fukuoka station). Handy - simple Android device providing unlimited data and calls (domestic and international). That was really cool. Free drinks in hotel's cafeteria. Staff spoke good English. Modern rooms.

Near the subway to airport, turn towards west side and walk out of the station (there is an info counter where u can ask direction and get a map) and will see Fukuoka bank building opposite the junction, cross the junction and walk straight down and you will see the hotel (in fact you can see the hotel at the traffic junction)....walking distance to Canal City...

I found my first stay so pleasant that I opted for the same hotel for my last night in Fukuoka. It was good to know I’d be spending my last night in Japan in a comfortable hotel. The staff were great, and the guy on the front desk was happy to help me out even when I phoned down after midnight. Really recommended as a hassle-free place to stay in Fukuoka.

This was such a welcome bit of space after being in tiny Japanese hotel rooms. Beautiful large apartment with fantastic facilities. View over the river, walking distance from great areas of the city. Such lovely staff and very generous with complimentary drinks and snacks. I wish there were more of these around Japan I would always try to stay in one.

It’s location .The hotel is few minutes away from various attractions like Canal City,Kawabata Arcade ,Hakata station and several temples .An added bonus is the proximity to family mart which is just across the street and 7 -11 which is less than 4 minutes by foot .I also enjoyed the food at the attached restaurant .

Everything is great. It's a japanese traditional house located in a perfect place(2 mins walk to Muromi metro station). The owner of the house is super amiable and helpful. He gave us a handwritten guide of Fukuoka in my language. The room is clean and the futon is cozy. This is the best place to stay in Fukuoka.

The bed was probably my best nights sleep in japan, really comfy capsule type bunk. The walk is not far but it puts you away from all the night time fun, so I would recommend booking a night at their other location in Fukuoka. Pretty minimalistic as far as accommodations but enough.
