At first I almost chose to stay around tenjin area because of night life there was more vivid. However, I felt very lucky to choose Toyo hotel around hakata area this time. It's very near Chikushi ticket Gate exit ( East Exit of Hakata station) walking 5 mins to the hotel. The road floor was not that smooth so it took some efforts to drag the luggage along the way. I recommended you who come from fukuoka airport to take the taxi, it costed only 1290 yen, worth to pay for sure. There were 2 convenient stores where I went to buy some stuff before came back to the hotel every nights. Without luggage, it's very easy to walk and go around fukuoka. Especially, my plan to go to Aso, Kumamoto and Yufuin. Room was the normal size in Japan (smaller than other countries) but still bigger than my expectation. The famous Issou ramen is nearby from walking distance. You can enjoy hakata ramen there.

I love everything about this hotel. the staff are extremely helpful. would give recommendations on good places to eat and to visit. Room is very clean and just the right size. this is a value for money hotel!
If you like sightseeing from a lighthouse, Hakata Port Tower is a nice place to go. Besides, Fukuoka is a must-go place for gundam avid fans, they sell a special gunpla that is only sold in Lalaport Fukuoka. Also, there is the tallest gundam statue in the world right in front of the mall. Tonkotsu ramen is a must-try cuisine, as it originates from Fukuoka. Hakata Issou is my recommended ramen restaurant if you want a food adventure. The smell and the taste are so unique.
It was easy to get around Fuluoka and the people there are very helpful. Food was good and affordable. We enjoyed going around Hakata station where there are so many choices of food and souvenirs. Also Tenjin has so many shopping areas. There are so many places to go around. Like the Canal City, Ohori Park, Fukuoka Tower. Transportation is convenient like when we went to see the Reclining Budhha in Nanzoin, Beppu, Dazaifu and Yufuin.
Fantastic place to visit. Plenty of shopping, restaurants, cafes, and historical sites. There are also festivals throughout the year. It's smaller and more relaxed than Tokyo or Osaka but still tons of interesting things to offer. My favorite area of Japan!
A wonderful city with lots of shopping, restaurant and places to visit. In Fukuoka we visited the Tenjin Underground Shopping Street, Kushida Shrine, Kawabata Shopping Street, Yanagibashi Rego Market, Hakarta City and Canal City. Restaurants we patronised were famous Ichiran Ramen, Tonkatsu Hamakatsu, Daichi no udon. But didnt like the dishes at Matsuya. Getting around Fukuoka is easy via subway but we walked (quite a bit) to some of the destinations. The subway are packed during morning peak hours so leave at least 3hrs to get to Airport timely. We were unable to get on the subway missing 2 trains and squeeze ourselves in (with luggage) on the 3rd else we would have trouble.
There are a lots of places to explore in Fukuoka unfortunately when we were there it was raining so miss a lot of visiting places. One thing need to remind traveller that tourist attraction in Fukuoka might not so convenience likes other places in Japan as you might need to take bus and might need to take 2 type of transport to reach there. Besides the information is very helpful the only thing is they speak very little English.
Fukuoka is a great city to visit. Good communication links to airport and other cities. Very clean and friendly. Safe and welcoming to tourists. We found lots to do here. The local food is excellent, lots of choices. Not too many English speakers so suggest you learn a few basic phrases for ease.
Fukuoka
Easy-going place with fair pricing. Instructions to open the entrance doors and open the key box were clear, so checking-in was pretty simple. About 15 min. walk to the subway Gion and a bit less to subway Chiyo-Kenchoguchi and about 20 min. to JR Hakata (for Shinkansen). The price from the international airport by taxi was less than 2000 yen although it turned out to be less known to the taxi drivers, so better have some info at hand about the location of the hotel in Japanese language. Overall, good value for money.
The hotel was beautiful. The room size was comfortable. Beds, although twins, were comfortable and good size for Americans. The staff was so friendly and was able to get reservations for us as I believe there was a language barrier when making reservations directly through the restaurant. The location of the hotel is directly across from the mall and Anpanman. The city is in walking distance, and airport is about 20-15 minute cab ride.
Near by Tenjin and Nakasu area. You will enjoy this area if you are looking for drinking and night life. However, I don't think it is ok for family with children. It is a very typical business hotel in Japan, everything is clean and functional, but just small (it is Japan!) The room is quiet, but with no view at all. If you want to base in Hakata and traveling around Kyushu, the ideal location for hotel should be JR Hakata station.
This is more of a business hotel, so the rooms are tiny and cramped, with everything controlled by a tablet. But we didn't come to Fukuoka to stay in our room. The room was clean, with nice amenities, and the bath was nice. The free evening drinks were okay, not great, but what was surprising was the very good breakfast buffet at the hotel. It's also well situated for getting to Hakata Station and exploring the area.
Everything is great here. Staff are very kind and helpful. Breakfast is wonderful. I love the fish and the Japanese soup, and many other dishes, which were really delicious. The room is super clean and the location is super great. It is 400 meters from Hakata Station. Opposite to the hotel is a 24/7 convenience store, where you can buy food and drinks. We stayed here for 4 nights and we loved it. Will definitely come back.
Very good location - just 3 mins walk from Hakata station and the airport line. The staff were very helpful, despite not being able to speak English that well. I was able to leave my luggage and come back later to check in at 3pm. The room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Loved it so much. Also, the free public bath on the 13th floor was AMAZING!!! Highly recommended!!
The location is second to none. It is right next to the subway station "Gion" that you can shuttle to airport and almost all the important locations in Fukuoka with ease. The bedding and interior environment is also clean as usual per APA standard. It is also pretty close to Hakata station that you get to enjoy the best food and cuisines in the area with many different choices.
The location is in between of Tenjin station (Fukuoka City Subway) and Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station. The place is easy to walk to this two station to go to other place for travelling. In the same time, we can easily shop and find a good restaurant in Tenjin area (most of the place is walking distance). And the hotel is in a quiet place and good to stay.
the staff was friendly and the room was on a good size scale. staff was kind enough to put me on the 10th floor and with a view of the River. you can choose from three different type of breakfast 2 Japanese or a western breakfast plus the buffet . 10 mint walk to canal city mall and 15 minute to the train station. they have a shuttle to the airport as well.
The hotel was within walking distance from the fukuoka airport, it was quite nice and comfortable. The room, including the bathroom, were clean and had all the facilities we needed. The hotel was close to various convenience stores and also within walking distance of areas with many restaurants and shopping centres.
Very trendy hotel and excellent location. It had a good vibe. The room was well decorated and we enjoyed all the books that were available. There were really good facilities with thoughtful touches like a laundry basket next to the washing machine and a free ice machine. Fukuoka is a great city with lots going on.
An affordable accomodation in Fukuoka. Hotel is located close to the metro station Ohori Park, 10 Min. to the Hakata Station. Nearby is a MaxValu supermarket with an ATM without banking fees. Hotel byself is quite old and used however the price is reasonably cheap. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful.
Although I could not walk to Hakata or Tenjin, the location was still perfect for me - super close to the Tojinmachi station. I could also walk from the hotel to Ohori Park and Teamlab Fukuoka. The staff was really helpful and friendly. The lobby was great - there was also a coffee machine provided.
Fukuoka
a very chic (tho tiny!) guesthouse with lovely staff! they introduced me not only places to visit in Fukuoka city but also restaurants in other prefectures of Japan in case i want to visit some day! there's even free (very comfy) pajama rental! cant really ask for more with that price @@
Location is the best strenght point of the hotel. The room is bigger than i expect compare with standard size of hotel in big city in Japan. With reasonable price, I super reccommend this hotel.
Well located, cleaned, comfortable and very nice. Very close to Hakata station, the Canal City Mall and the best yatais along the river. Great option for exploring Fukuoka!
