Hotel Soyokaze is a 5-minute ride from the Hakuba Valley and 2.6 km from JR Hakuba Station. A free 2-way shuttle to Hakuba Station is provided. We felt very welcomed at this family run hotel. Takao’s personalised service was what set this hotel apart from the rest. It was like staying with an old friend and yet still maintaining a professional relationship. He fetched us from and to the station when we arrived and left Hakuba. When we ran low on cash, he drove us to the nearest ATM. You can reserve breakfast a day in advance at the hotel (7, 7:30 or 8am) for 1000 yen and we were so glad we did. When we got to the breakfast area at 8, Takao and his wife already had a perfectly set table ready for us by the window with a view of the falling snow outside. It was so warm and cosy as we ate warm bread (with butter and peach spread) and a delicious plate of sausage, ham, eggs, salad and cereal. The meal also included tea/coffee and orange juice. It was a peaceful and private affair (only the two of us!) and well worth the money. Located in Echoland, the hotel was conveniently located a short walking distance to restaurants, a minimart and bus stops (Bear’s Cafe and Hakuba Base Camp) to the various ski slopes. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. The shower was nice and warm. The hotel had a private onsen which you could reserve in 40 min slots and we really enjoyed it after a day on the slopes. We got a 10% discount at Rainbow Rentals through the hotel and we could return the rentals at the hotel at the end. We were also able to get a discount on lift passes when we bought directly from the hotel (cash only). There was also a storage basement for your ski equipment at the hotel. We cannot recommend this hotel enough and will treasure the fond memories of our stay here in Hotel Soyokaze.

Hakuba, at least for winter, has much to offer Snowboarders and Skiers. Depending on your skill level there are places that will offer you more at your level. My opinion Goryu is great if you are learning. The slopes are gradual, wide and plentiful. If you like park I can only recommend 47 as I'm not a park rider. If you like powder and trees I "hear" that Cortina is the best but Iwatake was fun a few weeks ago with lots of powder. However there are a few flat spots that if you don't have enough speed you're skating. Tsugaike has Burger King, a plus in my book, and the runs are fun. I haven't covered all the runs on all these locations. I can tell you that Happo One is a must when conditions are good. Now after skiing Echoland offers many places to eat as well as the places near Happo One Gondola area. Depending on where you stay you will need to grab a taxi to reach these places. Depending on how long your stay is I recommend Air BnB or other apartment and house style locations so you have access to a kitchen with refrigerator. Plenty of places to shop for food.
Beautiful place. Loved the weather and fine snow. It was good to see all details online about ski lessons from various schools. It would have been awesome also to have some campaign details known in advance from the schools. Overall a great vacation.
My family could only squeeze together a short weekend trip to Hakuba, but we made the most out of our time there. On the first day my wife, son, and daughter went canoeing on lake Aoki with Dave from Evergreen Outdoor Adventure. In the afternoon they met up with my daughter and I (we spent the day at Hakuba Iwatake MTB park). While they waited for us to finish our last runs down the mountain they took the gondola up and enjoyed the incredible views at the top of Hakuba Iwatake. On the second day my children spent the morning at HakuBounce, while I had the opportunity to take my bike over to Air Time Hakuba. We had a wonderful time at each place!
A hikers paradise. There are so many incredible mountains and views with different levels of difficulty so that anybody can enjoy themselves. Personally hiked up Mount Shirouma from Tsugaike - the views were breathtaking and the summer highland flowers were stunning.
Hakuba valley is one of the most magical places we've visited in Japan. The Japanese Alps under snowfall are just breathtakingly beautiful, as is the village of Hakuba. Everyone we came across be it at a restaurant, bar, cafe, ski rental/ski resort staff etc were so very friendly, accommodating and just made for a wonderful experience. You can tell the locals are happy to see and assist people visiting their town and are pleased for the service travelers bring, the sense of community in Hakuba is tangible, neighbors helping neighbors, such a lovely place. Wish we would have stayed longer. Highly recommend visiting this magical little village, you won't regret it!
Hakuba is a great place to snowboard and after boarding all day there's plenty to do. Unfortunately COVID is not cooperating. I recommend this for anyone staying overnight. Plenty of mountains to choose from with varying levels for any boarder that includes backcountry. Plenty of English language assistance. Right now I recommend chalet style accommodations rather than hotels; however, you will need to provide your food by shopping locally. You can get a full day lift ticket for about $50.00 as an adult. This is for all lifts, rope ways and gondolas. There are shuttles between the resorts that are free. There's bound to be one within 100m of where you're staying or the location may offer the service themselves. Local Taxi's have racks for your boards so you can call or flag one down. I really like Happo-one (hap po O neh) when conditions are right. If it's icy I don't recommend a few of the trailers due to narrow switchbacks. If you stay in the Echoland area walking to downtown is easy. When COVID is gone there's plenty of restaurants to visit. The next large area is near the Happone Gondola. I would avoid the "Big" market when shopping for food. There's plenty of other places that will probably be less crowded.
Hakuba
Our stay at Hakuba Matata Lodge was amazing. Managers were amazingly kind, helpful, and friendly people. They really made sure that we felt at home during our stay. The room was also nice and the beds were comfy. Definitely sufficient for sleep in/ out. The shower was a bit small but still manageable. The location was also great, just a few steps away from the bus stop going directly to a few slopes like Happo One or Hakuba47. The nearest convenience store was about 10 min walk in the middle of Echoland.
Hakuba
The family-run lodge was the perfect place for us. Simple but extremely clean, comfortable beds and warm fireplace to sit next to in the evenings after a day in the slopes. On a hill right next to an historical shrine surrounded by forest. It was like a fairy tail. Location is good, near the Nakiyama lifts at Happo One. But note you have to walk up a steep hill at the end of the day. It was a lovely experience, great value, and would stay again.
Hakuba
The hosts were an exceptional couple who really made me feel welcome and at home. The place is cozy and with character. It offers peace and quiet. All the nice places in Hakuba are 5-10min drive. It is a perfect way to escape the heat of the Japanese summer and to enjoy a retreat on the nature. They have a wonderful outdoor bath which is a must 😍
The exterior of the building and surrounds were pretty. The rooms were small but clean, warm and inviting. The bus stop for the ski resort shuttles was right outside which was fabulous. It was a 10 minute walk to services, bars and restaurants. The offer of pick up and drop off to the Hakuba Bus Station was very helpful on arrival and departure.
Hakuba
The location was approximately 8 mins from Hakuba train station, where the highway bus stops at. The location of the ski shuttle buses is at Hakuba Royal Hotel, which is a very short walk. The room was very comfortable for a solo traveller. There is also a tuning area for skiers and snowboarders.
Hotel and staff were great! Location was perfect to Happo One lift and Happo 47 shuttle was at our front door. Good happy hour, breakfast, and best gyoza at the restaurant! Short walk to plenty of restaurants in Happo and Echoland...Would definitely stay here again!
super convenient location, close to restaurants and bars in echoland. Very close to hakuba base camp where shuttle buses to the snow resorts frequently come. Short walk to happo. Second time staying here and would recommend to anyone looking at coming to hakuba.
Hakuba
This is a great place to stay in Hakuba! Highly recommend staying here. It was perfect for our family of three (including a 5 yr old). It is cozy, clean, great food and the owners are absolutely lovely and made sure that we had everything that we needed.
Hakuba
Yutaka san, the owner, was so awesome. He’s a Hakuba expert and knows all the ins and outs. Very hospitable. Breakfast was delicious and private onsen after a day of skiing was a key touch. Great value, though beds are a bit uncomfortable.
Hakuba
The traditional Japanese accomodation was very cosy and comfortable Mr Toshi was a great help with organising ski gear, lift passes, supermarket run, daily drop off at different ski resorts in Hakuba Valley
Hakuba
Access to Hakuba base camp for tranfers to and from Narita and Tokyo. Also bus tranfers between the different ski resorts. Great location for dining in Echoland. Everything you need is in the room.
Hakuba
Wonderful spot for our family enjoy Hakuba. Close to all of the ski resorts and surrounded by restaurants and cafes.
The onsen was amazing! There are also drying lockers so you can store your wet outdoor gear there instead of in your hotel room.
What an absolutely fabulous stay! Tony and his family are just the kindest, nicest people and they really went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. Food was great, rooms and beds super comfortable and the evening drinks at the bar a perfect way to round off the day. can’t wait to visit again!
The great onsen and shuttle buses that goes around the ski resorts!
The Chalet and the very friendly and helpful staffs. Thank you very much…
This is our second time staying at the Hakuba Gondola Hotel, and you cannot beat the VALUE and the LOCATION. The owner is a nice Australian guy, and he is very helpful and accommodating.
Authentic German ski hut, amazing location, right on slope, easy access.
Echo hotel is an excellent establishment. The staff is top-notch and very friendly. The room s were spacious and clean. We paid for breakfast each morning and were very pleased with the quality and quantity. The hotel is in a great location, close to many local restaurants.
completely enjoyed my stay at this place. loved the location as the lifts were just a few mins walk away and appreciated how friendly and helpful everyone was. grateful to justin for making sure that my rentals were right for me, especially the set-up of the bindings; greg for picking me up at the bus terminal though it was past 9pm; felipe for the great breakfast and excellent song recommendation; and meg, whom i only talked to briefly but was just altogether lovely.
