Hotel Goryukan is a local hotel since 1937, located right in front of Hakuba Happo One Snow Resort (approximately 5 min walk). The room was wonderful with a great view of the surrounding area. It was conveniently close to the ski lifts, and had a nice bath area. Because of our booking we had to change rooms between nights, and the staff was amazing at accommodating that in a way that didn't detract from our skiing. The ski storage area and drying room were very handy for ease of our vacation.

The bus comes right outside the front door that takes people to the main ski resorts. It's not a very long walk (5-10min) into central Echoland where all the restaurants and bars are.

Plenty of restaurants in Happo One and Echoland. Happo One is lovely to walk around with plenty of shopping. The bus between resorts is infrequent and does not operate at night. Very difficult to visit another village in the evenings.
Choose anywhere in Hakuba to stay at as there's so many taxi's or free shuttle buses to get you to the ski slopes every morning . Much nicer places to stay are only 1 -2kms from the gondalas. Food is amazing and we have been 4 times to ski at Hakuba from Australia. Japan is the best snow !!!
We couldn't find much exciting to do in the little town of Hakuba, but the area surrounding the hotel was lovely. It is within walking distance of one of the ski lifts and there are free buses to the other mountains. We ate at both restaurants and they were okay. The hotel had a free shuttle that would take you into town.
excellent range of skiing. very good snow cover. too many aussies! The chairlifts are all too slow, and they could stay open for at least another 30 minutes. good value lift tickets- less than half the cost in OZ and much better snow, half the crowds.
Many ski resorts are suitable for different levels of skiers, and there are shuttles pass through all resorts. Happo is the biggest town, other resorts are relatively smaller and not many late night activities. Many local people run their own inns and provide traditional Japanese dinner with cheaper price. It is a good experience to try but usually they are shared bathroom and sleep on futon beds. Rental equipments and ski lift tickets are ususlly much cheaper in Japan than other western countries but the ski runway is shorter and more suitable for beginners.
Hakuba is a great little town! We only experienced it during ski season but it has a good small town feel. My only complaint is that there aren’t a lot of food places during ski season. If you do not have dinner reservations, it can be difficult to find a place to eat.
Hakuba
Very friendly and helpful staff. The manager was extremely accommodating and welcoming. Was always there when I needed anything like when I needed to take a trip to the convenience store or if I wanted to go to a ski resort that is a little further away than Happo One, she always offered me a ride. The breakfast was so tasty, I want the recipe! The beds were so comfy and exactly how I like it. The stay was just so comfortable it felt like I was at home and wanted to stay longer. Good value for money. Would definitely go back again!
A cosy and beautiful Victorian style house in Hakuba. The owners, a Japanese couple are very kind and we felt very well welcome: as the temperatures were still fresh, the fireplace was lit on in the living room and we were offered tea and delicious fresh French pastries - what a treat! Our family room was very nice and comfortable, and we all slept so well! We wish we can go back during another season (summer and/or winter). Location is very good too as it is in the heart of Echoland near many facilities.
Hakuba
Our stay at Hakuba Matata Lodge was amazing. Managers were amazingly kind, helpful, and friendly people. They really made sure that we felt at home during our stay. The room was also nice and the beds were comfy. Definitely sufficient for sleep in/ out. The shower was a bit small but still manageable. The location was also great, just a few steps away from the bus stop going directly to a few slopes like Happo One or Hakuba47. The nearest convenience store was about 10 min walk in the middle of Echoland.
Hakuba
Location was perfect at the bottom of a ski resort. Beautiful scenery tucked in the mountains. Plenty of snow for family fun! Our host was more than accommodating during checkin and kindly answered any questions we had on check in. After picking up our keys at the reception desk, he escorted us to our cabin, showing us every room and ensured we had everything we needed for our stay. My family could not be more appreciative of your hospitality and kindness!
Incredible location, comfort, and hospitality! I've stayed at this location twice and it was hard to each time. The staff is very welcoming and made everything (rentals, ski passes, recommendations) so easy for us! Walkable to Happo One, easy to catch buses to close by mountains. Onsen was exactly what I needed after a day of skiing. beers and food were SO delicious! Best spot to stay in Hakuba, and will be the place we stay every time we come back!
A hotel in a really great location for a skiing holiday. It's 2 mins walk from the main bus terminal to get to all the ski resorts each morning, so for anyone planning on visiting multiple mountains in Hakuba, it's a great option to stay at. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and fun to chat to. The included breakfast was simple, hearty food great before a day of skiing! Coffee was also great which is always a plus.
Hakuba
The staffs, Albert and his wife, are super nice, friendly, and helpful. They know about the area and can give you a good recommendation. The place is close to Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort, around 10 mins walk. The room is spacious and clean. The vibe inside the lodge is very cozy and warm. Bonus: can beer from the automated selling machine in the vicinity is cheap and reasonable.
Decent breakfast with wide choice of Japanese and Western items. Walking distance to Happo One slopes and shuttle access to many others On-site onsen is a huge plus for relaxing after ski Exceptional service, all staff went above and beyond to make arrangements and provide tips and info Walking distance to many restaurants
The staff were all incredibly accommodating and helpful. The breakfast, location, snowboard storage, and onsen bath were great too. You can skip lines at the resort by purchasing lift tickets from the hotel, and the Nakiyama lift of Happo One is very close (3-5 minute walk).
Service- Amazing service from Marcos! He was attentive, kind, and gave us tips and recos! Location- The place was by the slope, so we literally put our skis on to get to the lift. Room- The rooms were larger than regular Japanese rooms, so our family of 4 was comfortable.
The hotel is right at the base of Happo One....ski in and ski out. Incredible location. Everyone was more than friendly. You'll find the atmosphere in the restaurant/bar is incredible.....we were treated like family and nothing was too much for anyone to do for us.
The hotel is quite a walk from the resort center, but its surrounded by a beautiful forest and is right below Happo One. The rooms were clean and had a small kitchenet with a microwave. The staff were also kind enough to give my wife and I a ride to the village center.
Spacious, clean, comfortable space. Walking distance to Happo one lifts and gondola. Nice view of the Happo one ski runs. Walking distance to coffee shops and some restaurants.
Hakuba
Great location, very quiet place. Excellent for a family vacation. Fairly close to the main ski resorts. Very friendly staff with a super positive attitude and availability.
