The location was excellent, very close to ski lift and rental place (about 5 minute walk across a parking lot). Breakfast was great with daily specials included (ham & eggs, french toast, etc.). The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Lisa, who is the manager and personally checked in with us every day to make sure we had everything we needed and to give tips on local food and how to get around. The atmosphere overall was like being part of the family. We particularly liked the large dining room / bar area where you can come down after a long day and play games to relax. The rooms were simple, but absolutely adequate for a family of 4. The beds and pillows are incredibly comfortable, which is very important after a day of skiing.

This great hotel is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from the entrance to Madarao Resort, with a small mini-mart right next door. The property is clean and well-maintained, and the staff are exceptionally kind and helpful. Guests can have nice breakfast and dinner options for an additional fee. very nice old school hotel. it's aged but it's well maintained. extremely helpful staff and I would love to go back again. however I have one suggestion. pls insulate the windows better as the cold drift from the window can be very chilly.

Right on the slope with everything you need onsite. Great onsen and big buffet breakfast, we had dinner included too which was good as could use at the buffet or other restaurant brian on site also

Amazing family-run hotel with great access to the slopes! We had such a great stay here—the family is incredibly kind and welcoming, and the mom’s homemade Baos for breakfast were delicious! The shuttle to the ski resort runs every 8 minutes, and there’s a direct bus to Nozawa Onsen for a relaxing soak. If you’re a beginner skier, snowboarder, or traveling with kids, the smaller nearby resorts are a hidden gem—less crowded, cheaper rentals, and more fun. Highly recommend this place for a cozy, hassle-free ski trip!

Great location for the ski hill and nice hotel. The bar offered a lively social area and they onsen was fantastic. The breakfast had a great selection. Parking was on site.

“The Private Onsen” ( private open air hot spring ) quite large private onsen where you can relax while watching starts at night. this is the most liked part of our stay. also you can see the Madarao ski resort from your room window.

Everything! The hosts were friendly and helpful, they even recommended new spots to visit! The room was spacious and there were nice common areas, everything was super clean and the area around the house is beautiful. The house it’s a bit far from the station but they can pick you up and drop you there by car. It was a great stay!!! 100% recommend :)

    Llama is a typical Japanese town. Great for a walk, but one day is plenty! Madarao ski resort scenery, location is wonderful. Not a big resort, nice piste and some great tree skiing, but resort more for intermediate skier, 4/ 5 days more than enough! Lots of snowboarders!

    Madarao is a small village about 25 minutes away by bus from Iiyama. It is very accessible from Tokyo by Shinkansen. Dinner has to be booked in advance since there are not too many choices. People are very friendly, as Japanese are usually are, and try to accommodate as much as possible.

    Loved everything about our stay. Awesome view of the snow, very well sized cabin for 5 people. Very warm and cosy after a day of attempting to ski. The staff were exceptional, even going so far as to pick us up from the Madarao Kogan Hotel with our bags and elderly companion. 20 minutes walk to Madarao Kogen and the onsen there. We also had dinner at the main building which was delicious and the staff helped us with picking what trains to catch to get to Kyoto. Cannot recommend highly enough.

    Everything was wonderful and the best part was the service. Led by Lisa, the team was always friendly, accommodating and helpful…eg. suggesting good outside dinner venues and booking them for us (shabu shabu 1km away was amazing), plus helping us with transport whenever we needed etc. The Deluxe room was good value for money and we slept really well as the bed mattress was like a five star hotel, and the temperature control was consistent. We’ll definitely be back.

    Amazing staff and good facilities. The beds were super comfortable. Breakfast was a western style buffet, and was free! Good vegetarian choices for both breakfast and dinner at the hotel (and in general around the resort). Also amazing views whilst eating breakfast. Onsen hot bath is more like a spa, unisex and you wear swimmers.
