I can say this is one of the most underrated tourist places in Japan. It has good Kyoto vibes but is not as crowded. Also, you can purchase for around 800 JPY one pass that grants you access to around 15 museums in the town for 3 days, so having fun there is very cheap.
Advisory: Due to COVID-19, beware wonky business hours. Some places were permanently closed or greatly altered. Bring lots of water and loose clothing if you're visiting in the summer. LORD it was hot! I thoroughly enjoyed walking the castle grounds - so much so, I went back a second time. The scenery at Kenroku Garden was beautifully green and refreshing in the hot and humid weather. To escape the heat, museums are a must. The best one was the Prefectural History Museum. The interactive hands-on displays and exhibits, though in Japanese, were still fun and enjoyable. The city offers a ¥500 bus ticket for their loop route around the castle district to all the major places, but I found it a hassle navigating through the various bus stops and just opted to walk everywhere. I'm glad I did!
Its enough to spend 1-1.5 days in Kanazawa. Its been hard to find convenience stores everywhere like Tokyo. I recommend not to go Nishi chaya district because there is literally nothing. Just 4 5 shops, its far and the environment is bad. Just go higashi chaya.. Also there is cafe near castle named as "kururu cafe" has a great breakfast (boiled egg, salad, croissant and coffee for just 500 yen!) also recommended!
I've traveled all over Japan, but Kanazawa has now stolen my heart. First visit and it has become my favorite city! A great mix of history and modern life, fantastic food, walkable city, and friendly people.
A very charming town, especially the amazing Nagamachi District, Nishiki Chaya District, and the streams that snake all over the city!!! So with the open and humongous Castle Park, all the Edo period wooden houses/buildings are just exquisite and they all all over the city!!! People were nice, too. As in all over Japan, it’s very clean!!!
Last time we went to Japan a year ago, we did not make it to Kanazawa. This time we made a point of visiting. Next time we will definitely go back. The city is modern, spacious, and has a great vibe. It does not feel too crowded or too large. I would call it a manageable city which is clean and prosperous. There are plenty of historic hidden gems to see and explore.
Good Access: abt. 10min. from Kanazawa Sta., Higashi Chaya Gai or other spots by bus. near bus stop (no need to use umbrella to bus stop) Good Facilities: All facilities are so clean and easy to use. Separated bath and toilets. served Hair dryer, toothbrush, shampoo/treatment/showergel. All guests can use front floor's cafe Good Mood: Renovated interior design, staff's uniform, front floor's cafe let us feel JAPAN. I, Japanese, can just say THIS HOTEL WILL BOOST YOUR KANAZAWA TRIP UP DEFINITELY!
Excellent location to see the main sites and also use city loop bus if required. This is a new hotel and they are paying a lot of attention to detail and making guests feel welcome, e.g when we stayed at certain times of the day one could acmes free coffee, snacks and wine which was welcome after a day out walking. Short 2 min walk from bus stop to and from Kanazawa Station. The hotel , like many in Japan provide all you need for an overnight stay which is good if you are travelling light. Good room size for Japan.
Kanazawa
There was some miscommunication regarding the beds to be provided for my family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children). This is an issue which Booking.com needs to sort out as it also occured on another reservation through Booking.com with Japanese properties. However, Daimaru-un was kind enough to solve it amicably and quickly without any fuss. The location of the property was superb. The property was clean and well maintained. Best place to stay in Kanazawa as it’s walking distance to all the attractions.
Perfect location if you want to be near Ohmicho market. We had an amazing crab meal in the area. It was near Kanazawa train station and Higashi Chaya district too. Easy access to the other attractions (museums..) too. The hotel is pretty new so everything was clean and nice! Thank you for the coffee machine at the lobby where we could get drinks anytime of the day. The welcome drink (wine/sake ) was also highly appreciated! Breakfast was good too! We had a perfect stay.
Hands down the best hotel I have stayed at in Japan which had very little to do with whether or not it was a 5-star hotel with all the requisite facilities but no soul. The staff made all the difference (went out of their way to help us with recommendations), as did the very cool ambiance in the music bar and Happy Hour Cocktails. I can't wait to stay again and will be back. Thanks Kaname Inn Tatemachi staff as you really made our Kanazawa trip AB FAB for us!
Excellent location close to the main Kanazawa sites. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful with all enquires. The hotel was a contemporary ryokan which was beautifully appointed with art and atmosphere. You could where your yukata to the lounge where free beverages were available anytime. Free soba was available from 9.00pm. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. It was a really relaxing experience.
Super stylish hotel with amazing facilities, super technological. I was impressed by the iPad controls in the room and the complementary smartphone we were allowed to take around. Room was spacious and clean ; had a lovely common area. It’s just a walk away from nearby sites such a Omicho Market and Kanazawa Castle. If your willing to, a walk from the station is also possible.
Kanazawa
Kanazawa guesthouse Stella is just a short walk away from the Kanazawa castle and Kenrokuen gardens and right beside the Higashi Chaya district with old buildings where lots of local Japanese girls hire Kimonos for the day and walk around the area. The host was very welcoming and friendly and the room and facilities were very clean and comfortable.
Staff are extremely helpful. The hotel makes you feel like home. The room has everything and spacious. There is a big supermarket nearby where you can buy fresh fruits or something to cook dinner Love this hotel. I enjoyed my stay here very much. Would definitely stay here again when I come to Kanazawa
We absolutely loved this place. The staff are unbelievably helpful and friendly. They are gracious enough to speak English with us in their house. The hotel is close to everything. Kanazawa was an absolute highlight for us. The room is perfect for what we needed on our holiday. Thank you
Kanazawa
Very kind and welcoming staff, super clean facilities with a great traditional Japanese feeling. Nice bath though you should be aware they are a shared onsen type. Perfectly located right next to the Kanazawa castle and Kenrokuen.
I love the showcase of Japanese modern art incorporated into the interior design. It has a very cosy and sophisticated feel and look to it. It is also surprisingly affordable for the level of service and quality of the hotel.
The hotel is conveniently located in Kanazawa - a short bus ride from the central train station and relatively short walk for most of the sightseeing places in the city. There are very nice places to eat and drink nearby.
We had a welcome drink at the lobby as well as the staff were very kind showing us Kanazawa tradition to eat Japanese sweets in new year. It was a great surprising gesture as I was not expecting anything when I came.
Kanazawa
Very good communication with Bungo-san - owner of the hotel. He helped us plan our stay in Kanazawa. Nice Ryokan with many features, including bath. It was great, highly recommended!
Convenient location . Short walk from west exit of Kanazawa station. Free laundry facilities available and convenience store just next to hotel .
The availability of the public bath was the reason I moved from the Nikko to this hotel.
Very attentive staff, great location, fabulous breakfast
The access to hotel below street level, the lobby was awesome and the 29th floor lounge was great for a drink and dinner. Wish we had stayed for two or more days. On my list for revisiting, the lobby host was the absolute nicest and accommodating lady. I wish we remembered her name, she was a treasure to have met.
Location, staff very helpful, spa on 2 floor
