Shuttle that is free to go to the village. Definitely ask for the private shuttle to come and pick you up from the train station Iiyama - it was about 7000 yens for 3 people but definitely worth it makes the journey easier especially when you have young children. There's a good variety of slopes that are ski-able in most conditions. The level of hospitality in the Japanese-owned establishments in the main village is usually very good. The village is easy to get around on foot, and there is a shuttle bus to the main gondola. The free hot springs are too hot for many people, but Furusato no Yu is a more reasonable temperature (500 yen or 400 yen with a discount ticket from your accommodation provider).
Nozawa is exceptional as it has great snow but is also a traditional mountain town with old shrines and hot spring baths. It wasn't overcrowded when we were there, and everyone we met was very friendly. Excellent restaurants, bars and facilities for such a small place.
Beautiful, compact, traditional village which looked great in the snow of the ski season. Many restaurants are very busy and must be booked in advance. Access to the ski lifts is made easier because the hot Spring water is piped under the streets to keep them ice free!
The town is picturesque and had alot of bars, restaurants, Onsens and good skiing. You may need to book restaurants during periods. Dinner at Azegamikan for a Japanese dinner and St Anton for coffee and lunch.
This is our second visit to Nozawa Onsen, the first being in Dec 2016. The Nozawa Onsen ski resort was quiet during March 18, so the pistes weren't crowded at all. It was wonderful sometimes being the only people for long stretches of the slopes! The village itself is very pretty & onsens soothing for the body and mind after a day's skiing or sightseeing. Prices here are pretty reasonable for a ski town too. Definitely recommended for those who fancy a laid back ski/snowboard break! The only drawback of going towards the edge of the season was that the warmer Spring weather came early this year, so snow conditions weren't at their best. Probably January & February would be the most reliable months for experiencing the great snow Japan is renowned for! Will definitely visit again someday.
Charming with winding streets and great Japanese character! Lovely old town section. Fantastic restaurants! Atmospheric and definitely a place to go back to again and again Really good skiing place! 3 hours door to door from Tokyo and much easier to get to than Hakuba with a nicer town

This is a great family-run guesthouse, everyone was very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to gondola and village. Our Japanese-style room was comfortable and warm, the shared facilities were tidy and clean. Definitely go for the breakfast option, it was delicious and plentiful! We stayed 3 nights and got to try different things each morning. We appreciated the shared dry and ski storage room where we could leave our gear overnight.

Good location, very close to a lift, so that we could get the ski center easily. The host was very kind and patient showing me how to get ski yard and the locations of the nearest Onsens. The room is very big, clean and cozy. I prefer to stay there for more days if I hadnt to catch the Shinkansen. I think I'll back to the place again in future, for skiing, special Onsens and staying at this hotel one more time.

Very nice & helpful owner of the hotel, we felt like at home. A breakfast is available and if you have no problem with futon beds go for it. The ski station is a 15min footwalk away but thats not a problem as you can leave rented skiwear near the skistation. At the ground floor you can have your own private onzen, I was always alone and enjoyed the hot water. Very helpful staff.

The accommodation is located very nicely, beautiful views, good connections to the slopes, clean and cozy Japanese style rooms, an onsen/pool in the buildind. The staff was very helpful and helped us even with booking bus tickets from Nozawa Onsen to Kyoto (note this: snowboards not allowed in the bus, but to be shipped separately).

Everything, especially the service. Very welcoming, friendly and attentive. Satsuki san and her family are exceptionally helpful. And breakfast was amazing! We went skiing for a few days and got the 10% discount for rental (just ask the boss for the 10% discount card). Love every bit of our stay. Will definitely revisit nozawa onsen!

Loved he hospitality, breakfast was amazing. The futons weve very comfortable. The place was up the hill but since Nozawa is a small town, everything was a short walk. Nozawa Onsen Azegamika was also very close to the Yu Road which is an escallator access to the ski area.

Great place to stay! Highly recommend to those, who want to eat real Japanese breakfast and dinner (both delicious), sleep in real ryokan, soak in onsens and interact with kind people. The owners of this place are the nicest people we've met in Japan.
