Located in Higashine, 28 miles from Zao Hotsprings Ski Resort, Super Hotel Yamagata Sakurambo-Higashine Station Front has accommodations with free WiFi and free private parking. The hotel was very clean. The onsen was hot and relaxing, and all amenities were provided including toothbrush, towels, shaving kit, etc. The breakfast was also great and had many options. We came and went by car so it was convenient enough for us but I can’t speak to how the public transportation was for this area. I did spot a train station within walking distance of the hotel.

Near the train station where you can take Shinkansen or local train. It tooks only 15 mins from Yamagata station by Shinkasen. It's a good choice.

Just a 1-minute walk from JR Shinjo Train Station, Hotel Route-Inn Shinjyo Ekimae features a spacious public bath, a relaxation lounge with massage chairs, and rooms with free wired internet. I made the mistake of reserving the accommodation for the wrong day, but the staff was extremely helpful and changed the dates for free at the last second. Would highly recommend staying here, everyone was so nice!
