Recommend sightseeing of the various famous coastal features, dining at fish markets, relatively cheap hotspring bath with lots of choices, local car rental probably the best idea to go around that area as parking is mostly free. Transport is overall not convenient if going from Osaka or Kyoto : driving is a too long trip (for me!), needs at least 2 changeovers if by JR then another car/taxi/bus to hotel. Needs better planning on this.
Loved the nature. People are friendlier than usual in this area. only down sides are: taxis are expensive even for short trips & its location is far away from Wakayama city as it takes around an hour to reach.
Amazing beach, great food and very friendly people.definitely , an enjoyable city, specially if you like Japanese onsen.maybe the best moment is from May to September..seems not to be so much activity in winter season.
Really beautiful beach, particularly good for children as there are no waves. The town had everything I needed e.g. restaurants and a 24hr supermarket with a Daiso next door. I would definitely visit Shirahama again.
It is a perfect place to relax. I liked the fact, that it is compact and people are very friendly. The beach, is perfect, and the sunset was spectacular. The water is clean, it is amazingly clean. We also tried one of the famous onsens, it was a great experience.
Great little seaside town, beautiful beach and a fantastic little restaurant just next to the beach where you can grill your own seafood at your table. Were were there at the end of April so there was almost nobody around but the weather was great! As everywhere, polite, friendly and kind Japanese people made our stay very enjoyable.
