Located right in front of Shizukuishi Ski Resort, Shizukuishi Prince Hotel offers simple Western accommodations with mountain views. We loved this placed! No foreign tourists so you got a feel for typical Japanese western style accomodation. Ski in and ski out and the crab legs at the Buffett were plentiful ! Thank you

Featuring hot spring baths that use natural hot water flowing directly from the source, which is neither heated nor recycled, Oushuku Onsen Choeikan is a ryokan in Shizukuishi. We want to give Oushuku Onsen Choeikan high praise because they contributed to my husband and I having a wonderful three night stay celebrating a special occasion. The property was very quiet, relaxed, and had an air of dignity about it. It is located in a beautiful narrow river valley with densely forested mountains on both sides. The sound of birdsong and running water, which could be heard from our bedroom window, was so peaceful and relaxing. Our standard twin room with its mountain view was spacious and well-equipped - probably the most pleasant room that we have stayed in while in Japan. Breakfasts and dinners at the ryokan were superb, with lots of tasty Japanese vegetables, meat and seafood - really more than we could eat, and beautifully presented. Our host, Sebastien, was very charming and attentive to all our needs, making sure that we had explanations for everything related to our stay. We could not fault the service anywhere, from front desk to restaurants, to coffee shop. There is a choice of three onsens each for males and for females. I enjoyed a very therapeutic massage in our room as part of the optional services. The ryokan is well located for day trips to places of interest, but relaxing enough to just enjoy without going out anywhere else. There is a pretty waterfall an easy walk away, and an ashiyu (footspa) overlooking the river just up the road - a great spot to just enjoy the views, read a book, or chat with a friend while enjoying the benefits of the hot mineral spring water. We would thoroughly recommend Choeikan to anyone looking for a special break away in a beautiful part of Japan.

Arrived by the dark of night, stayed on the resort property all weekend then left in the dark of Monday morning, so we don't have much of a view of Shizukuishi from a 2017 perspective. I loved the town when I was here for the World Cup of Snowboarding in 1996, but I'm sure it's changed since then. I remember at least one tasty yakitori-ya and ramen shop, but that's about it. I can say that the Prince Hotel and Resort is a great property for families looking for a weekend escape during ski season. Being able to rent everything (except gloves, helmet and goggles) was particularly helpful.
